Default Stanley Pozidriv Screwdriver PZ1 #65.532 Tip Geometry Incorrect

Stanley Pozidriv Screwdriver PZ1 #65.532 Tip Geometry Incorrect

Last year I bought some new screwdrivers, one of which was a new Stanley Pozidriv 1, cat 65.532.

Recently I used it for the first time to remove the CSK Pozidriv head screws on the hinges of my Waeco 12 V frig freezer.

The screwdriver just rotated in the Pozidriv head indent without turning the screw.

I had a close look at the tip geometry, and discovered that the tip was "too pointy", and not like a normal Pozidriv tip which is "blunt, with a slight conical shape".
    The parallel flutes look correct.
I had a look at other Stanley 65.532 PZ1 drivers in the store, and they are all the same "pointy" shape.
The Stanley PZ2 drivers looked about right.

I contacted Stanley Tools Australia about this, but they just said to make a warranty claim, and did not address my question as to whether the screwdriver met accepted standards.

They didn't seem to care much.

Now I like the Stanley Pozidriv drivers as the overall "feel" is just right for me after 50 years of using them.
And, there are not too many manufacturers with this classic parallel handle shape, (as distinct from the common barrel shape) and which I find good in use.
Lately I have also been using PZ1 for some JIS heads on 1975 heritage Japanese Radio Receivers.

I have carefully ground down my new Stanley PZ1 driver tip (removing about 1.50 mm) to approximate the shape of my seven other PZ1 drivers.
The difference in useability is amazing. They now work correctly.

So, ....if you buy these particular Stanley PZ1 drivers.
I suggest you grind down the tips.
Don't bother contacting Stanley Tools Australia; they seem indifferent to this aspect.

The reason I am persisting with this "minor detail" is that I feel peeved that the tool was obviously "not fit for purpose", and that the manufacturer seemed indifferent.

Photo shows the correct tip grinding. Pozidriv on the RHS. Phillips on LHS for comparison. Courtesy Wiki Commons; fair use.

Too late now you should have sent them back for replacement, the only way to force companies who rely on their past heritage and now produce rubbish is return the faulty items for replacement or refund
