stones
Hello, have spent some time looking for arkansas stones and cant find many in catalogues. Most listed are too small. Can anyone tell me where and how much? Alternative suggestions welcome as I have a few planes and chisels to tidy up. Have used bench grinder 8" and stanley combination stones for years, good enough for carpentry but now want to try some detail joinery. Thanks.

You could try here. http://www.danswhetstone.com/bench_stones.htm They're in the US so shipping would be a bit pricey. But then again the stones prices aren't cheap either. Have of thought of using water stones. I've used arkansas and water stones, I prefer the results I get from water stones.

A good site, thanks. Has the sizes and detail I wanted. Also like your router, very nice work. I will also look into water stones before ordering .

Generally, I've found the edge from a very fine arkansas isn't quite good enough to use; I always buffed or stropped before using. I found though that I can take a chisel from an 8000x water stone and use it with good results with out buffing or stropping.
