Default ... and the 1/2" is even better

I picked up my HNT 1/2" dado plane at SWWW. I had hesitated to up-size because I was concerned that it may be too big and clumsy but those fears were completely unfounded and it is, if anything, easier to use that the 1/4" and certainly more stable because of the wider base. I chose lignum vitae because of its heft ... and it's uber cool..

Like its little brother, it cuts beautifully clean dados with square flat sides and smooth bottom...

I don't know it I will up-size again to the 3/4" because I can cut any larger dados by using the 1/4" twice and removing the waste with a router plane .... plus I didn't leave a pigeon hole for it ....!

I'd say simply its time for a larger cabinet Fletty or this could be the end of buying planes.

Looks nice and I bet its weighty.

To disguise the acquisition of new planes I make sure there are never empty spaces in the cabinet. I'm OK for more bench planes because (counting from the left on the ramp) numbers 3, 5 8 and 9 are sacrificial and number 10 is a retired HNT.
It's joinery planes that are the issue!
I have more user planes in the vertical drawers under the bench so I'll have to re-distribute if ever I'm tempted to buy more!

Fletty, that pic is disgusting. Everything identified and safely in a box.
