Yep, slip of the typing finger - the '9' is perfectly clear, the '2' was the digit I had trouble reading..
I did gather R.L Eades made it, what I meant was, does Paul have a bit more background on the maker & what he (I think I can safely assume it was a male wot made this at that date), used it for...
Cheers,IW

Hahaha ... it was from Patrick Leach's list ... you can buy two for a grand ...
MrX300 Unique scraping plane signed and dated (1979) by its
maker; a lot of work was put into this one, the sides
are engine turned in the manner of Norris; two adjusting
nuts finely set the 2" cutter; dovetail construction,
stuffed with an exotic wood, it has a perfectly shaped
grip worked into the rear stuffing; 5 1/2" long, it's
in overall fine shape, the sole will want a lapping to
remove the tarnish that developed from improper storage;
this is really a fine plane:

and while we're on it ...

Thank you, Paul.
My eyesight really is kaput - 1979! (not 1929). Part of the reason I was so interested was because it had a 'modern' look to it that seemed at odds with 1929, but now I have the right date, all seems well. It's still a superbly made little tool, of course, & I would be curious to know what Mr. Eades did with it - perhaps an instrument-maker?
CheersIW

Now THAT'S a scraper holder!
Firewood does hold some magnificient figured timber -such a waste. Have been sawing up some twisted grain SE Queensland Ironbark firewood lately and it has some wonderful figure in it. I don't think I could make something as beautiful as that scraper but might have a go now you have shown it to us.
