What is that thingy on the end?
I have been shearin splinter in my wooden head trying to think of the proper name for that metal ring around the end of a chisel's handle.
Metal ring thingy is not the technical term but for the likes of me I can't remember. Any help from knuckle draggin' handtool WWers?

Bit of a dead heat there! Not to be confused with feral, as in Rattus P Rattus.

No, that's the other end... I know the metal cup over the tang end is the Ferrule.... It is the ring on the striking end that has me in a baffle. Thanks.

Japanese chisels have an "iron hoop" at the top of the handle.
The old textbooks simply referred to western chisels as having an "iron ferrule" at the top and a "brass ferrule" at the base of the handle to contain the tang.

Okay, so I guess it is an Iron Ring or a Ferrule.... Too simple, perhaps that is why I couldn't recall... because it has no specific name.
Tool Nomenclature is a strange and wonderful thing. Decades of schooling, a lifetime in the classroom and all I can come up with is "Thingy" Geeze I are a Fool.
