    Helmut,

Hi. I realised I made a mistake in my order. I asked you to put down:

    Qty 1 - 40 x 4 x 100 mm
    Qty 2 - 50 x 6 x 100 mm

    But I meant:

    Qty 1 - 50 x 4 x 100 mm
    Qty 2 - 50 x 6 x 100 mm

    Apologies
    Mark

    1@- 50x4x100mm ($46.00)

My experience of wooden plane blades is limited to old blades with cap irons. Square shouldered on the top or with a slight chamfer.

What would be the cost add on to have them shaped with the tombstone design like the replacement stanley blades to show they came thru the efforts of the members of this forum

Already Done, I have drawn up a CAD file already and waiting.

It does not add to the cost when done with laser cutters. Ask a laser cutter to cut you one blade and they will ask $300 for that one blade to be cut, ask for 200 of the same blade to be cut, and the price drop to $2 per blade. I think it is simple the cost of programming and set up that they are charging for. However waterjet cutters seems to charge by the distance the jet travels probably due to the cost of the abrasive used increases the longer you go.

Helmut, I must have missed the bit about the tombstone profiling, I wonder at the practicality of this shape for woodies.

The square top of the last batch makes it very easy to adjust from the top of the blade with a mallet, rather than having to hit the side to correct skew. The tombstone profile will make that almost impossible.

    Anyone else have an opinion?

Here is the latest pdf. and drawing showing of the shape for blades.

We have only allocated 1/3 of the sheets, so there is lots of space left.

I am also going to have some 2 1/4" blades made to fit the Veritas Bevel up Smoother, Jack, and Jointer planes, out of the 6 mm M2 Steel.

As for the tombstone or curved shape is used by Wayne Anderson, Sauer And Steiner and by the Japanese, with no detriment.

Here are two planes by Wayne Anderson

Here is one plane by Sauer And Steiner

    And some Japanese models:

I have thought thought the shape, and I suspect that the round shape may actually be better. Since you can hit the middle, left or right of the center and the further down the arc you strike would act to shift the blade more laterally.

Hey Helmut, just a little thing - I think the 50x6x150mm & the 50x6x200mm that I ordered may have been allocated to the chap below me in the table (im not sure what he ordered?) - Nothing to worry yourself about though, I may not have read the table right. really no urgency at all, the PDF doesnt have to be updated untill you get a few more orders.
    your doing a great job

I see what you mean Helmut. Does this make any difference to anyone else? I'm curious whether I'm the only one who adjusts the plane this way.

    G'day kman,

I have been using the 2 inch Stanley Replacement blades on my Mujis. The adjustments is fine for me since I normally tap the middle to extend the blade and left/right side of blade if it is out of square. Maybe that's just my technique.

    Cheers

    Question Veritas Bevel up Blades

    G'day Helmut,

I am assuming you'll be making blades like these, but with tombstone top.

Veritas' blades are 3/16 inch, about 4.76mm thick. Would 6mm be too much? But those planes do have adjustable mouths.

I don't own any Veritas Bevel Up planes, just curious.
