Default tobacco tin and felt applicator

Hi all, I got a couple of Tobacco tins and some felt the other day to use as applicatio's in applying some form of rust preventative product to my hand planes and saw's. would it be fair to say that Silverglide would be the best thing to use? Otherwise I can try mixing some wax and indeed oil I suppose... cheers, now back to the shed to make a start on that box...

I've got one here made by my father pre ww2.

As a kid I can remember him using it on broad axes, circular saws, hand saws etc. All they ever used was new motor oil. And don't ask what grade because I don"t know.

Like Toggy I recall my grandfather, a farmer and general bushman, having a baccy tin of felt or lambs-wool soaked in what I thought was lanolin. It was used on hand shears, axes, saws, and anything that was prone to rust.

You could try camellia oil. highly recommended for all your tools. available from some tool dealers, or even EBay.

Frank Klausz has one and uses oil in his. Dunno what type but would be a good way to go anyway. Camellia oil'd work well.
