    Default Tote & knob

    Hi all,

I got a stanley no7 (1950s) that needs a front knob. Does anybody on the forums sell or make these? I got the hardware already. I can post a pic when I get it if needed.

    Hi Andy

    Jim Davey sells them.

I have purchased a tote before from Scribbly, he'll probably chime in if he has one.

The Tool Exchange or Hans Brunner usually have some.
I have a set from Black Apple and they are very nice.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

I think I have one that will suit.
Let me know what timber is the handle and I'll see if I've got a match.
A pic would help - also what hardware do you have - some use a steel screw, others the brass nut and post arrangement.

    Thanks for the replies!
I'll post a pic as soon as the plane arrives (I bought it on ebay).

    Cheers,

    Thanks Tom for the info.
It's in fairly good condition and worked good when I received it. I'm going to tune it up and hopefully it turns out to be a great user. I payed $71 for it which seems like a good price.

Just for info in case of a sad user, Crown make replacement knobs and totes out of Indian Rosewood:

    Product Details

I got a pair for a Stanley 4 and the wood and finish are good. Better than the knob and tote supplied by Veritas for their block plane IMO.

Of course given the variety of forms and fixings I'd get a return agreement before ordering. The tote was a pretty tight fit in this case.
    Cheers, Ern
