Default What type of chisel is this?

I was in my family's garage today, putting away some tools when I came across six Marples chisels. My Dad is the biggest hoarder I know, and I wondered how many years these have been sitting there. They look fairly unused too, I just have no clue what type of chisel they are, looks like carving. Please excuse my ignorance guys. I love woodworking, I just don't know the terminology!

No this is a new find, about half an hour ago. I bought those other chisels at a market on the weekend. Fresh question!

Geez I'm not that ignorant. The pic of the box of tools was one I found on the net which looked similar to the ones I found. I took a pic of one to compare it to.

There's an old saying, me laddo: if it looks like a parrot, smells like a parrot, and sounds like a parrot, it's a duck, errr, parrot...

What you have there, me old sea dog, is a spindle gouge. Arrrgh.

Nick, from the pic, it is a gouge. Could you please supply some dimensions. Roughly if it is 200-300mm it would be a carving gouge for hand carving. Above 300mm it probably is a wood turning gouge. At a rough guess it is a "micro" turning tool. Hope this helps

Why should people answer your queries if you don't even take the info onboard?

I'm pretty shore he knows there woodturning chisels. I think he wants a more defining description of that particular chisel. Thats all, right ?

I'm new to lathe work. But, I've just been through a book on the subject. From what I've read, its a 'spindle gouge' . Can do all your beads, coves etc...ie. all the flashy turns with just this one chisel.....the most important one, says the book.

.So....no need to get nasty, ....though, it could be fun to watch

So Fugly .....are you just ugly ...or...F****** ugly....or....just a handsome bloke that likes saying 'fugly' ????
