Thread: Union Number 8 Plane

Union planes are a rare sighting in our corner of the globe, TS. I've not come across any myself, but there may be someone who knows a thing or three about them who hasn't read your post yet.

I assume you've searched the internet? I found a bit of info here and here and here Seems to be some confusion about when they were bought out by Stanley, & when they actually ceased manufacturing, but you might find enough info there to get an approximate date for your example.

Union & Union/Stanly lasted 40 years in total, so you've already got it pinned to within half a lifetime.....

I can see by one of your threads that its an early frog so thats a move forward at least. Ive started to renovate it but didnt wanna do too much to either ruin it or if its not worth it...

Well, according to the sites I linked to, the Unions were at least as good as the Stanleys of the day- one bloke reckoned they were made more carefully than the Stanleys. If they are only as good as early Stanleys, you've still potentially got a very good user. It looks to be in good shape for its age, suggesting it was well cared for, so should only need a bit of fettling to get it singing in tune.....
