Veritas Card Scraper kit
I'm thinking of getting the Veritas Scraper Kit (variable burnisher, mill file edger, scrapers, holder) direct from Lee Valley in the US. At $68 US it's significantly cheaper than Carbatec or Timbecon, however, I'm not to sure on the postage rates. Could anyone give a rough idea of postage costs from the States? I figure the package would be about 1 - 1.5kg max.

Lee Valley are actually in Canada not the US.
If you place an order with them, they'll send you an email telling you how much the postage will cost and asking whether or not you want to confirm the order.
This is the best way to find out what it will cost you.
I recently bought the mark II honing guide, a couple of chisels and a chisel roll which must have been around 1kg all up. The postage was aound $30 US.

Dion,
as I own the set myself and having a rough idea of the weight, it should be about 1kg. As Craig has said, 1kg postage cost about $30 US. This wll give you a total of about $130 AU all up. No customs payable on this amount.

Les

I bought the set some time ago, it's great.
My advice re the shipping would be to add a few little incidentals to the order to help spread the cost. You know a few knobs for jigs, hard to get hardware like knobs for that special item. A handplane or two, you know little things. I tell SWMBO this all the time, she doesn't belive me, but I still tell her.Boring signature time again!

Thanks for the info. Even at $30 postage, I'll still be ahead of Carbatec or Timbecon.
Outback, don't tempt me! I've already drooled over the beading tool and the block planes..."If something is really worth doing, it is worth doing badly." - GK Chesterton

Just get a block plane too.
Don't argue, it's only a few bucks more...
BTW, Lee Valley ships out of the US, New York IIRC...

Funny thing that!
Friday I lobbed off an order to LV for a couple of minor items, and it seems that, somehow or other a couple of their specialty planes got added, mysteriously, by an unknown hand to the order.
Miraculous thing, this Internet ordering bizzo Have plastic, will have tools
Cheers!
