    Default Veritas freebie

Since Santa has deposited a Veritas MkII Honing Guide in my sweaty little mitts, I now have a spare MkI Honing Guide surplus to requirements. This has hardly been used (the MkII came along just in time for me...), and is complete with the angle setting guide and instructions.

If anyone can get some use out of this MkI Honing Guide, and is willing to cover the postage on a COD arrangement, they can have it. It all fits into quite a small box and doesn't weigh too much, so I'm guessing the post charges shouldn't be too much.

    First in, best dressed !

Wow - 5mins and its gawn....

Tom - PM me your postal address, and it'll be on its way tomorrow or Monday. I assume you get a little card from the Post Office when it arrives to request the post charges before collection.

    Enjoy !

A very thoughtful offer. Hope you find the MKII as easy to use as I did. A greenie from me too.

Cr*p. I have a new MK II and an old Mk I. Now I have guilt, too.

Good on you for doing this. Greenie armed.....

    ...and away!

Pat - I'm finding the new MkII guide to be a wonderful thing. It makes a difference when you can put a previously sharpened blade back into the thing, replicate the original settings, and find the bevel grinding almost perfectly across the entire surface. I was never able to do that with the MkI, no matter how much care I took with setting the blade in the jig. I also find the extra heft of the MkII helps a lot. Mind you, a MkI guide is still much better than nothing.

My MkI would have remained dusty and unused in the bottom of a drawer, so I don't see why someone else shouldn't get some use out of it. Go on, gregoryq, you know you want to !!

(Rob Lee sees monthly sales of MkI guides plummet due the strange phenomenon emanating from Australia...)

I use my old MkI as an angle measuring device. Sometimes I forget what angle I grind various blades, and it's nice to be able to just whack it in the MkI, hold it up to the light, and see whether it's 25°, 35°, etc. Probably should draw some angles on a piece of tin or something shouldn't I?

Agree with others about the benefits of the MkII.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

My MK I still gets a lot of use. I find it much better for narrow chisels. So, no guilt, but a greenie is on its way.

Thumbs up Thank You Mr Brush

    Dear Mr Brush,
The Veritas honing guide arrived today and was delivered direct to my letterbox. Thank you very much. It appears to be exactly the same as the currently advertised honing guide from Veritas. Are you sure that you sent me the right one? I am of course absolutely delighted and can't wait to give it a workout.
    Many many thanks

    Hi Tom,

The MkII Veritas guide that we've all been raving about doesn't appear in many local cattledogs just yet, although Carbatec et al should have them by now.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of mileage out of the MkI guide though.

    Enjoy your new toy !

    Cheers

Your generosity deserves a greenie,by sharing what you no longer need with someone that does merits a good turn in response.

THANKS for making this day a positive in most of our eye's ,we could do with more like you around.

Cheers as the saying goes ...give of yourself and you'll receive tenfold.

    You're one hundred percent right.
I introduced Tom( the lucky winner of this gift)to these forums. Where your theory holds true is as follows.Tom sold me his triton mk3 for $150 when I was prepared to pay much more and even offered to. Recently he sold me an old radial arm saw for a carton of beer. Some of my mates have valued it at about $350.
So he now reaps what he has sowed. On one of his first visits to the forums and he stumbles across this offer. Good Karma or what?
I hope he does receive tenfold, he's a top bloke, although his username should be the elephant man
    Cheers

See? What goes around comes around !

I'm happy to give something back when this forum has provided me with so much information and help over quite a period of time - I was a lurker for a looooooong time before signing up. I just wish I had found the forum before buying Record planes as a newbie (that's another story), but thankfully I have now been converted to the wonderful world of Lee Valley. After spending weeks fettling Record planes to work properly, I can only say that unwrapping your first Veritas plane is almost a religious experience !

Compared with several other forums I frequent (photography, sharemarket, etc.) this place is an absolute standout. More power to young(?) Neil, I say !!!! Hey, I even bought a copy of his book to help things along.....
