    Default Tapered plane blades

I tried correcting one of my tapered blades - a Carter I think, but perhaps the Turner - and was utterly unsuccessful. I'd suggest it can be done, but I didn't have the patience for it. Before trying to square it up, I was able to get a good edge on it (using a veritas MkI) . However the blade had to be set in the plane slightly skewed and it never seemed easy to get a square edge on the timber.

Another issue I had was a slightly cupped blade. It was unmarked and came off a bedrock I picked up cheap. It had seen a lot of use and had little blade left so I hadn't tried using it, but I'm now wondering what effect a cupped blade will actually have. Will it come out when locked down in a plane? Maybe sharpening it with a correctly flat, square edge will induce cupping when locked down and give a scrub plane effect?

Anyhoo, glad you got yours sorted.

    Cheers
    OG.

Get a thicker blade but as for the skew you have to correct it just be patient and don't give up I spent hours preparing my blades once it done you get a break and just hone when needed after a while you will have re establish the primary and create a new secondary bevel otherwise your just wasting your time.
