    Default Veritas Router Plane

Can anyone who owns (or has used) a Veritas Router Plane comment on how rigid the fence is ? The single rod design concerns me because of the single rod on my Stanley 78 fence.

I'm hoping the fence is rigid enough to make small rebates and take on the odd groove. I have a Record 044 that I have hardly use (and intend to sell) so I want to make sure the Veritas Router can perform that function on the slim chance I want to make a groove (by hand) in the future.

    Cheers,
    Sam

    Hi Sam

The Veritas router plane fence is a rigid mechanism capable of precise adjustments. However, while I do use one for selected types of ploughing (such as removal of waste from a dado or sliding dovetail), it is not a substitute for a plough plane when grooving with the grain. A plough plane is a far superior tool for the latter task as it can remove waste more efficiently here.

    Regards from Perth

    Hi Derek,

Thanks for replying. No doubt the plough is a better tool for the job with the grain. It's good to hear the fence is sturdy.

    Cheers,
    Sam
