New Veritas Saws Coming Soon!: Well they have come
A couple of weeks ago I emailed Veritas about large tenon saws. I wanted a 16 inch (4 inch depth of cut) tenon saw after the style of the 16 inch LN saw. But I figured that perhaps sometime Veritas might make one and I could at least wait and compare. They told me that yes they would be selling some and that they would be for sale in a few weeks. So each morning I have been checking my emails and the Veritas website to see if they have been placed up for sale. Well within the last hour they have put them up on their web site.
Veritas® Rip & Crosscut Tenon Saws - Lee Valley Tools

Probably the most unusual (somebody will say ugly) saws I have ever seen. But I have bought any number of Veritas tools and they have all been very good. They are for sale now at $175 for the pair which equates (depending on the exchange rate) to about $190 plus postage. I will be getting them. I already have 3 in the series of saws ( the saw rip and cross cut saws and one of the dovetail saws. They are just great. My age is still less than my number of posts

Like you chook, I have the carcass pair and a dovetail from Veritas and now I also want these. Might have to wait a while though. Will be interested to see what the postage is.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Go on Tony, just get them via sea transport.
Then you can wait the 8-10 weeks in anticipation
I have the Dovetail version of the smaller series and it is as pretty as a saw can get. These look more utilitarian.Pat

They look like they took some cues from a Ron Bontz saw in profile.

Ron also has the curve at the heel of the blade as a bit of a trade mark as well as the shaped toe. This is not the saw of his I was actually thinking of but shows the style.

I guess nothing is new though, only rehashed by someone new.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

Why would you bother buying those veritas ugly ducklings when you can make the real deal. Oh the shame of it all.

Yairs, that old D9 shape has eye-appeal. Can't say the Veritas does the same for me, but I suppose if you're a Star Trek fan.....
This is one of my early 'interpretations' of a D9. I tried the thumb groove on the handle on a mock-up, and didn't like the feel of it, so left that out.

Something I notice about the new Veritas saws is that the handle sits high and the grip angle is higher than on the D9. When saws start getting big & bulky, I like that handle to be closer to the 'thrust-line' as Ray calls it (or was it someone else used that term?). It makes for a much more controllable and comfortable saw, I reckon. I notice Ron keeps his handles low like the original, too. But it's a matter of what you get used to & what you like, I suppose....
Cheers,IW

There are some things I can do really well I suppose. There are plenty of things I can do a bit and am getting better at and there are way too many things I would love to try but do not have the time (yet). Making my own saws is definitely one of these last things. Frankly I see the saws that some men put up on this forum and I am amazed at the beauty of the things. But life is very short and I know I will die with my to do list still uncompleted. I hope that before I am laid to rest I have made some saws and done some wood carving, whatever else may get to doing. Until I can make my own saws I must buy the saws of others.
