Thanks for that Derek, they are versatile in their use.
I wonder with the skew plane whether the cap iron could give more support to the leading edge of the blade if it was a little longer, although the blade itself is robust in thickness one of the things I first noticed was how small the cap iron was!

I noticed the small plough plane in picture #5 .I have a set of these as well with a full set of blades that have'nt yet been used either.

How do you find them in use?
There is no doubt in my mind that Veritas do make a quality tool.

    Cheers

    Hi John,

By the look of all the photos, from you and Derek, it would seem that one could produce a door panel faster with this tool than with machinery, if you had to set up everything from scratch.

And all without any screaming power tools.

Looks like you are going to enjoy those two planes John.

Damn you blokes, I had put the thought of getting myself a set of these out of my mind, but there it is, back in there again.

Thanks for the photos. Can't wait to see the full reports from both workshops.

    Cheers,
    Pops

Hi Pop's,I have'nt seen reason to regret getting these planes it also made the decision to go ahead with the plough planes, but for what it is worth I need to do justice in the purchase and get busy with them.

Veritas have definately got a grasp on how to produce quality that makes the expense all that more worthwhile.
The feel/heft of these planes is like that nice comfortable feeling with a nice tool.
The skewed blade attack on wood fibre allows that slicing of wood fibre to just roll off of the edge and that was without even honing either of the two planes.

    Cheers

    Hi John,

Gee mate you're making it hard to resist my ordering a set.

Am sure you will enjoy 'getting busy' with them and hearing that gentle hiss of peeling curly shavings. Now I am torturing myself.

All the best. Don;t forget to post some photos of your efforts when you get to using them.

    Cheers

    Hi guys,
I was lucky enough to get the RH Veritas Skew Rebate for fathers day.
I tried it out this morning and I just can't wipe the smile off my face.
Great tool. If you can get your hands on one of these just do it.( I want the LH now...)
    Happy Curls everyone

That's good news I hope you will get many happy hrs of good use out of the plane.
Kevin the extension rods are handy for the fence which just allows that more latitude in your work and they won't break the budget.
You could probably make your own ones up to suit.

    Cheers

Thanks for the heads up on the extension rods Johnno. Its my birthday soon so I might just treat myself. I've still got that smile on my face. Bring on the LH version ...now.
I'm looking forward to the review Derek. I enjoy your insights to tools and their uses.
    All the best
    Kevin
