Some mighty fine spokeshaves made locally: HNT Gordon and Co Classic Plane Makers Australia

They give you a great feel for where and how you're cutting, and can double as a work of art.

Just a data point to add. I have quite large hands and have never used these veritas shaves but my favorite spokeshaves are the stanley 63 and 64 small shaves. They don't need a death grip - just a light touch once they are tuned up so are easy enough even with large hands.

I haven't tried the small Veritas shave, but I handled one at either the show or at Carba-Tec and I just couldn't come to grips with it. I can't get on with the Stanley 150 series shaves either; I find them too top heavy. I too prefer the 63 and 64 shaves for just about everything. I also have a tiny little boxwood shave for getting into really tight areas.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

    How odd.
Looked today at the Carbatec prices and all are now $119!
Down $30 in 24 hours for the flat shave.
The power of the internet chatroom or just coincidence?
I have never seen any postings from Carbatec so I assume they don't follow the forum.

I am now doubting my sanity (not that there was much left to doubt there).
Did anyone else check the prices yesterday?
    I couldn't have imagined 3 different prices could I???

    This gets better.
    I was quoting Carbatec Melbourne.

Carbatec Brisbane has a special price:
The flat spokeshave is on special from $119 UP to $134!
    Might give that a miss.
