Veritas Wheel Marking Gauge
Hi all
I have been visiting this forum for some time now and this is my first post.
I must say this is a great woodworking forum.
Anyway I am planning on purchasing a wheel marking gauge and wondered if the gauge with the micro adjust feature is worth obtaining over the standard version.
Many thanks

Hey Gil, welcome...
I just purchased a micro adjust gauge through L.V.
It does nothing special and quite frankly a bit of a pain to use the micro adjust.
IMO stick with the regular marking gauge.
Apart from that little quirk, they are a great tool and well made.

It really depends on how obsessive you want to get and that depends, I suppose, on what you are using it for.
If you are making fine doetailed boxes, I suppose the microadjust will be something you use all the time, but if you are making rustic style furniture with MnT joints, it is probably less desirable.
FWIW I have both gauges. I bought the micro adjust first and when I thought I had lost it, bought the standard to replace it. I then found the micro adjust one. Most of the time I don't use the micro adjust (and you just know that on the rare occasions that I do I have the standard gauge in my hand and the micro one is hiding).Cheers
Jeremy

If you a) don't need the micro-adjust and b) don't need to mark off large distances (say 25mm plus) then take a look at the new double ended marking gauge that Veritas have just brought out. There is a review of it by Derek Cohen on these forums.
