Wenzloff Halfback Saw
I thought I'd share the pleasure I had today crosscutting a board with a new saw from Mike.
Construction details:
No. 8 Half-Back Saw
18" blade length
.030" steel
12 ppi ***high fleam / rake angle***
Cross Cut
Slotted Brass Back
Australian Blackwood handle
This was a birthday present from my wife ... for last year! Which is why I wound up with two presents this year! (It's OK Mike - just a little tease. It was worth the wait).
I was crosscutting a 13" wide Jarrah panel, along a knife line. The saw cut this hard wood like a knife through butter, and tracked beautifully. Here are a few images of its progress ...
Three quarters the way and tracking the line ...
Nearing the end, and still there ...
Image of the remaining line ...
Thanks Mike for a saw that is both beautiful in looks and performance.
Regards from Perth

A "good" saw?
surely you jest — just look at the tearout on the bottom edge of that plank !

am I seething with a mixture of envy and jealousy?
not really,
someone had to be the first to reply

Saw looks v nice but was a bit surprised with the tearout too.
Derek, pic 4 looks like you are on the other side of the line, is this pic reversed or am I missing something?
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Hi Scooter
Keen eyes!
I hit the line about 2" from the end. This can only be down to my marking out. Well .. a 12" Starrett combination square only has a usable length of about 10" - and I did mark the line from both sides of two boards that were jointed and glued together. The chances of a perfectly straight line were not high. Still, I got close - 1/64" is not too bad over a length of 13". The edge was finished with a plane.
Definitely not the saws fault. That is one sweet tool.

Very nice Derek. Looks like it works wonderfully, and looks great too.
Now I just have to get myself one......along with all the other toys in the background!

Hi Derek,
Very nice looking saw, quite a deep blade. That handle is a treat too.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
