Wildick Sheffield tool?
I have inherited an ancient looking gouge marked R (or A) Wildick(?) - Sheffield. The maker's name is written above the name of the city after a lozenge, i.e the trademark looks like:
<C><>:::::::::
Google and netsurfing can't tell me anything about it. Does anybody here know about these tools? Thanks.

Sounds like Aaron Hildick - 1860-1960. Trademark is probably "Diamic", now better known as Henry Taylor's trademark (Hildick bought up HT). Pretty common but also pretty good.
Cheers, Alf

Thanks Alf. Sorry I have been confusing about the trademark. It is not another word, it is how the name itself is written after a lozenge:
/\ A.Hildick
\/ Sheffield
The lozenge has two little opposite triangles in it : <^> (imagine the second triangle reversed underneath). Does this help with the dating?
Thanks again
Frank
