    Default Winter Panel Plane

Last year when the weather was cool I made the Winter Smoothing Plane. It's cooling off again in my part of the world so I decided the Winter Smoother needed a companion and so did the owner of the Winter Smoother. The result is a Winter Panel Plane.

2.25" wide iron (57mm) pitched at 50 degrees, sole length 11.125" (282mm) Wooden bits are Macassar Ebony

They may tag you novice in the forums Ron but your plane is certainly nothing of the sort.
    Masterful work

    cheers, Ian

I think there is going to be a very long list of compliments... Absolutely beautiful.
...I'll just make the other bits smaller.

Awesome work. So there is no cap iron , is that because the bed is 50 degrees. Or is it the blade angle?

The iron has a bevel angle of 27 to 28 degrees with a flat back (no back bevel) that being the case the effective cutting angle is in fact the pitch angle of 50 degrees (bevel down configuration). Given the pitch, the level of accuracy of all the mating parts and a mouth of .004 the only thing required for this plane to perform well is a sharp iron.

    Default Thanks

Thanks for all the nice comments about this plane. I've worked on this design for quite some time and to have it result in this plane was quite pleasing for me.

    Thanks for looking,

    Ron
