I don't understand why they'd do this, but considering the width of the plane that didn't look like an unreasonable amount of force really.

Just one problem......can't see how I'm going to get the blade into my Veritas MkII Honing Guide
With a blade that size, probably best to clamp it in a vice, grab a diamond stone, then take several paces back to get a good run up.....
