Yours is probably a bit stiff through lack of use. I find I hold my Yankee 130 with three fingers around the part with the forward/lock/reverse slider, and with thumb and forefinger I can easily pull the knurled ring down (3mm). The bit just lifts out.

If you pull on the bit first, it adds resistance to moving the knurled ring.

    Cheers, Vann

p.s. No rude jokes about my gripping technique thanks team

Being a certified "Frugal woodworker" I took an existing bit and modified it with a few minutes of angle grinder action.

Never thort about which way to use and pull the collar - I'm old enuf to have always known about this - but if you are going to the hex adaptor you cant use the original drill bits (straight fluted - the name quill comes to mind for some reason) for lead holes and all drill bits with hex on them are far too long to use with a yankee unless your technique is a lot better than mine - but busted ones with about 30-35 mm left on them resharpen well and the short length is ideal for pilot holes in floors and decking
