10HB fence rails, anyone lengthened them?
Hey guys,
I was thinking that to help facilitate my plans for world dominati... I mean workshop tranquility, lengthening the rails of the 10HB fence would be just what the doctor ordered (I'll explain why later). I though the easiest option would be to simply buy a longer piece of angle iron for the rear guide, and box section (square tube) for the front.
The rear angle is no worries. The front section is where it gets interesting. The standard piece is 60x40mm, the issue here is apparently that size doesn't exist! I went to 3 different steel merchants and the closest that could come up with was 50x25 or 75x35. Both of which aren't really suitable without modding the fence clamp
So, has anyone lengthened their rails at all? If so, how did you do it?
Cheers,
Ben

Keep hunting for the steel I am pretty sure they are fairly normal sizes

You want wider rip capacity than standard?
Just move the front and rear rail over one bolt hole, will extend 800mm+
The disadvantage is you lose putting the rip fence on the left hand side and you will need to install a leg/support on the right hand side of the machine.....................................................................

Kiwi, I'll try again but after 3 different places told me that, and one of them carrying just about everything steel under the sun, the hope that it is a standard size in Australia is fading somewhat. Apprantly though, aluminium is available in that size. I'll have to look into that a bit further next week.
Harry, I already have the fence starting at the edge of the main table instead of at the edge of the outer wing. I have the rip capacity I need, now I don't have the capacity to rip to the left of the blade. I occasionally need to bevel large pieces, so the stock has to sit to the left of the blade.
I did like your link though, thanks for that. It has given me some more ideas that I didn't think about yet!
