Apart from the fact that by the time you buy a triton table, 9-1/4" saw and all the needed accessories, a decent table saw is only marginally more $ if not less lol.

That, and the 0.5 was meant to be 0.05... Been typing past few replies on my phone.

    OK - panic over......

0.05mm is only a couple of thou, which will do the job nicely.

If your doing much crosscutting, I'd recommend any Incra mitre gauge (even the cheapest version) will be a huge improvement over the gauge that came with your saw.

I have the Incra 1000SE and have used the Kreg, I far prefer the Incra over the Kreg any day, but YMMV. One of the nice things about the Incra is that it has metric scales.

The mitre gauge that came with my table saw is now in use on my SBE4300 bandsaw and it does an OK job there, so don't throw the original out (thoughtfully or otherwise).

Big Shed - good idea, the crappy mitre gauge that came with my JET tablesaw might still be an improvement over the even crappier mitre gauge that came with my bandsaw.....

I'll have to dig the JET one out of the dust under my bench and give it a try

Then the REALLY crappy mitre gauge recovered from the bandsaw might be an improvement over the stupendously ultra-crappy mitre gauge that came with my disc sander.....

    - you've really started something here......

    Musical mitre gauges.....hmmmmm

And where they stop no one knows! lol

I had the incra V120 gauge with my last saw, and as stated I wasn't overly impressed with it. The issue was that it had 3 or 4 adjustment washers forward of the gauge face, yet none behind it. I had these done up so tight that anymore would have impeded its ability to slide through the slot. Still, I had around 0.25mm play around the end of the bar that couldn't be tuned out. By the time you get to the end of a 600mm fence we are talking whole degrees

I had a play with the Kreg one at Carbatec and was much more impressed, mainly as it had adjustability over the entire length of the bar. The guys at Carbatec also recomended the Kreg over any of the Incra range. As for the metric vs imperial debate, the Kreg gauges that Carbatec bring in have a metric tape included.

Now I just need to wait until next payday to get my new gauge as my dodgy mates are still yet to come up with the money for the tv cabinet I just built

We all have our preferences, but FWIW the Incra 1000SE has adjustment at both ends of the bar. I have never used the V120 so can't comment on it.

There is a good review of the Kreg gauge here.

Mr Brush, yes I have one of those "superb" mitre gauges for my disk sander too. It flops around like, like.... well shirt sleeves and male anatomy springs to mind.
One of the items on my "todo" list is making a decent mitre gauge for the disk sander incorporating some additional functionality for sanding pen blanks.

    Updates;

I have FINALLY go around to getting myself a dial gauge, I bought a metric one last week, then found an imperial one in the back of one of the cupboards that came with the house when I started to clean up the shed

I've got the blade (front to rear) to around 0.03mm, or 0.0015", of the mitre slots. From what I have read anything under 0.07mm/0.003" is acceptable, which is good as I tried to get it perfect for around an hour last night and think I just took 5 years off my life due to the stress of trying to get it within 0.01mm!!!

I will work on alligning the fence and mitre gauge tonight (I ended up getting the kreg, I know they 'claim' it to be factory calibrated, but I will test to be sure). Well, will attempt to do it tonight, apparently my brother in-law is coming over wanting me to change the turbo on his car, while he waits! Got news for him, LOL.

Now all I need to do is get off my lazy ars3 this long weekend and get the extension tables and overhead dust collection in order and world peace will ensue, well at least it will in my own little world
