12 inch blade on TSC-10HB?
Has anyone had any success in using a 12" blade on a Carbatec TSC-10HB 10inch saw table?
regards
Jill

Jill,
I have ran smaller blades on a table saw with no problems but I will ask why do you want to run a larger one. If it is to get more depth of cut then you will be making the machine work harder than it was designed to do. The other problem may be clearance for the blade to run free. I have not used this model saw but instinct says no.
Regards
John

The motor will handle a 12" blade as will the build of the whole saw, the clearances you will need to worry about and the blade "may" sit proud of the table top when fully wound down.

It is just that I was given a 12inch crosscut blade, and wondered if I could use it on my 10in saw table. Doesn't sound like it, ayh?

hi jill, i would never put a 12 inch blade in a 10inch tablesaw.
anybody that recommends doing that is either on drugs or they need to start taking some!
if harry72 works for a tablesaw company and designs these components, i will gladly eat my hat.
otherwise i have no idea why anybody would recommend that.
the tool companies have made it pretty simple for us wood butchers, whether we are professional butchers or weekend butchers.....
10 inch tablesaw = 10 inch saw blade.
12 inch tablesaw = 12 inch saw blade.
i rest my case, your honour.
regards, justin.

Hi I am a building contractor, and one thing that I have learned over many years is that you only use the components designed to go with each tool. You would be putting yourself and other people around you in great danger if you used a 12 inch blade on a 10 inch saw. In other words DON'T DO IT.

That's a rather blanket condemnation.
For the record do you own a TSC 10 HB tablesaw, like Harry does, and are you talking out of experience or is it based on general assumptions without knowing the TS in question.
I also have that TS and the motor is 3 HP and the blade is driven by 3 seperate belts. The unit is solid and is quite capable of handling a 12" blade if the blade opening is big enough.
I don't have a 12" blade but if I had I would try it however I would only use it with a hodemade chipboard zero clearance insert. In any case you can use this blade by not raising the blade higher than the 10" blade would be.
Ofcourse proper safety precautions need to be taken as I'm sure Jill would do.
Peter.

hi peter,
for the record, i dont own a carbatec tsc-10hb. but i do have extensive experience using this particular model and other table saws ranging from $200 - $200,000 saws. it is a great saw and i also find the router attachment a great accessory too.
a good friend of mine uses the carbatec model and allows me to use it whenever i need to. i also help him with his joinery and kitchen business. he also owns an altendorf which he has trained me to use.
i understand that the saw in question is quite powerful (3hp) and has 3 belts.
i agree with the statement that the motor and the build quality of the saw itself is strong enough to take a 12 inch sawblade.
i consider the advice given to be unprofessional unless it is backed up by the manufacturer. if it is backed up by the manufacturer, i will gladly eat the humble pie and apologise.
i am certainly no expert myself, but i have learnt enough over the years that modifying any power tools usually ends in tears, if you are not 100% sure of what you are doing.
i dont have the manual today, but i will be happy to call my mate tomorrow to see if it is possible to do this.
of course, the best option for jill would be to ignore everything i have said and call carbatec. they will be able to inform her very quickly if this possible or not.
regards, justin.

Hey everyone, relax. Chill out!! I have absolutely no intention of using a 12 inch saw blade on a 10inch table saw after reading these comments.
Many years ago I was a safety officer for an electricity authority for 3 years, and am very conscious of safety and the dangers of tools. The day I am not a bit nervous using a table saw and router table is the day I will give them away. Once you get overconfident with dangerous tools, accidents happen.
Many thanks to all contributors.
regards,
Jill
