Default 12inch Sherwood Deluxe table saw or 10inch SawStop Professional?

I am sure you have seen this a million times but any and all advice is appreciated.

    Looking for advice.
My budget isn’t unlimited but is reasonable.

I am considering a table saw and have come down to the following

SawStop industrial or professional 52inch roughy $5200 plus mobile dust hood $749 ( professional) Imdustrial is about a $1000 more. So about $600 all up.
SawStop Professional Cabinet Saw with 52" T-Glide Rail

Or the Sherwood 12 inch Sherwood 12in Deluxe Heavy Duty Cabinet Saw 2400W also. 50 inch rail system.
Sherwood 12in Deluxe Heavy Duty Cabinet Saw 2400W

    SKU: SWUS-300. $5999

Which I like the idea of the large blade. 100mm cuts
I can view the SawStop as I am in QLD. Quality etc.
I can’t view the new Sherwood any thus are unsure of the quality.

both a LH tilt and similar in size. Weight is different.

I am not really that into the extra for the SawStop safety feature.
I am considering the quality of build to each other.

I have plenty of room in my workshop for either.

is the Industrial range in SawStop worth the extra over the Professional model?

Open to all advise. Either way.

What is the delivery cost for the saws,
for comparison, to add to the all up cost.

With that budget I'd be going for this little Woodfast sliding table saw--------> Index Woodfast Group Australia

Riverbuilder has one and reckons it's excellent, and sliding table saws are much safer than even a Sawstop. It'll do everything a standard cabinet saw will do and then some.

Biggus, the wagon on the Woodfast looks to be more of a crosscut design as opposed to one that rips. It is the ripping action on the slider wagon that adds safety.

SS vs Sherwood? I would want to see them in person, but am biased to the SS for expected quality. The extra capacity of the Sherwood is expected to add about 3/4 - 1". Is that significant enough to forgo the build quality of the SS?

    Regards from Perth

My Men's Shed has a Sawstop contractors saw, the build quality is very good. We have had it for some years now, in fact we bought it right after Sawstop became available in Australia. It gets a hammering, sometimes from people who are not quite mechanically minded. But with regular maintenance and ensuring everything is correct; it just keeps on going.

I have helped someone to cut some very awkward timber using a Sawstop cabinet saw, I'm not sure which model it exactly was, but it had a very good build quality and was dead accurate. This was last year and I believe his Sawstop was about 2 years old then; he works it quite hard and I don't believe he has had any real issues.

My brother has a similar version of the Sherwood saw you are looking at, possibly 3 years ago we put it together. It is alright, but is not exactly in the same league as the Sawstop units when it comes to final finish and tiny little things. That said, it works very well for him and now with a few years under his belt with it, he knows how to get the best out of it. I believe the current Sherwood unit has been changed a little since he bought his unit.

    Mick.

At the $6k mark you have quite a lot of options, even more if 3-phase power is an option Woodworking Machines

Buy a sliding table panel saw, you’ll smile every time you cut something and it’s perfectly square and clean. You can rip with them too, takethe crosscut fence off and lock the table, change the blade and away you go. Takes no more than 4 minutes on my little saw.

That’s my delimiter . The Saw stop certainly looks and feels quality. I am unsure on the Sherwood, as I can’t view it, but do like the extra cut size.

Thank you Mick, I am leaning towards the SawStop, due to apparent quality, but a little unsure. I will also check out the panel saw mentioned further above by Members.
i guess they both will do what I want. I was just trying to buy one without reservation. Ie being happy with what I bought.

The Sawstop would hold it's value a lot better than the Sherwood.
I fairly quickly on-sold a Carbatec cabinet saw after realising I really wanted a slider, it took a while and was a quite a big loss.
When I was getting quotes early this year a Minimax Sc2 was not much more than a Sawstop with extras.

    Hi Oldtex,

I can’t speak for the Woodfast but I do have a fair bit of experience with the Professional Sawstop.

The Pro Sawstop build is excellent and everything is (to my mind) rock solid. I’ve used this for several years and it has never missed a beat. The safety aspect is important to me, and the saw is sufficiently good that I wouldn’t even consider anything else unril they have a similar safety feature.

Purely my preference and I respect others who have different views.

    Brian
