Default 5/8 arbor saw blades 30mm hole

First time with a real cabinet saw, it has a 5/8 arbor or 15.9mm however it didn’t come with a blade.
so off to the place of purchase but they only had 25mm or 30mm holes in their blades, they do all come with shims.

Am I a duffa for wanting a blade with the correct hole (special order is available at a price and delay) or does everyone just use shims.
    I await the brains trust😁

12 “ Sherwood hybrid cabinet saw

    cheers

I use reducing rings with all my blades, rip and crosscut because 30mm is the European standard. Exceptions are the original one and 2 Freud ones - rip and dado stack (because this is the US standard). No dramas ever but make sure you get 5/8 and not 16mm

Opteco Australia, an Australian saw blades manufacturer, sells reducing bushes 30mm/5/8".

All the major retailers have reducing bushes for 30mm to 5/8". They work fine.

The only thing you really need to have the correct size is for dado sets.

I agree with you Hodgo. Irresponsible labelling by halfwit marketeers. I have enlarged the offending segment:

    Arbor hole.jpg

Now 5/8 inches is actually 15.875 mm, a significant bit smaller than 16 mm.

There are possible four possible permutations:

    1. If the blade hole is actually 5/8" and the saw arbor is 5/8", then it will fit perfectly,
    2. If the blade hole is actually 5/8" and the saw arbor is 16 mm, then the arbor will not fit through the blade,
    3. If the blade hole is actually 16 mm and the saw arbor is 5/8", then it will be an out of centre fit and the saw blade will vibrate excessively,
    4. If the blade hole is actually 16 mm and the saw arbor is 16 mm, then it will also fit perfectly.

I’m pretty sure ⅝” is the standard size.

I actually think some manufacturers dont give a toss

the specs on the dewalt 7491 say it has a 16mm arbour, so possibly a "5/8" bore hole wouldn't fit even tho it is marked 5/8 (with 16mm marked in brackets)

its hard to imagine dewalt making imperial (USA) and metric models of the 7491 with a 0.125mm difference in arbour sizes

the usa model may even have a 30mm (or 1.1811") arbour size

If you buy from a saw doctor/pro blade supplier they will tack the reducer in so that it will never move. As mentioned previously Freud have a range of blades available with 5/8 off the shelf. I had both types when I had a cabinet saw, no dramas with either.

I have purchased two blades (both 30mm bore) one makita and one dewalt not by design just because of tooth number and stock availability. I also purchased two carbitool 30mm -16mm bushes, snug fit had to assist with a wooden mallet so I guess they will stay in the blade😃
fitted to the saw seems snug on the arbor no wiggle room as such,

thank you one and all for the assist.

just awaiting delivery of some silver glide to coat the top once I have cleaned off the manufacturer goop with wd40.

    cheers

Silly me; I cannot imagine an American company manufacturing anything in a metric size.
