Default What is actually better about VSCTools fence?

The fence on my MBS300 variant (H&F version ST-12D) is actually really good. But it's too big for me at 1320mm, so I'm either gonna chop it down to 812mm, or sell it to someone who wants a 1320mm (52") fence, and buy something else.

I'm familiar with this thread, so I know there aren't heaps of options for 'something else'.
Looking at photos, seems like the sliding and locking mechanisms on the VSC is essentially the same as what I have. So I'm curious about whether it's better, how, and by how much. Love to hear from anyone who's used similar.

Inclined to stop overthinking it and just chop down what I have.
Wait for a 2nd hand Incra TS LS if I really feel the need to upgrade...

Tell me what you know. I'll even take opinions.

The ST-12D is NOT an MBS300 variant. The ST-12D has a 950mm x 690mm table and weighs 249Kg while the MBS300's table is 1220mm x 762mm and weighs 259Kg. Pretty sure the ST-12D is made in China while the MBS300 is made in Taiwan. (Whoops! I take that back, the ST-12D is made in Taiwan. )

So it's the length of the rails for your fence that are the problem? If that is the case and you're otherwise happy with the fence I'd just be cutting the rails down to the required length and spending my money on something else.

Ah, right you are! I hadn't picked up the difference in table size.

ST-12D is indeed Taiwanese, and while I can't remember the sources, I do remember diving pretty deep when I was deciding what to buy, and I was reasonably satisfied that both machines are manufactured by D-Way aka Mikiway manufacturing in Taiwan. Maybe I'm wrong, I have been before! They do appear to be remarkably similar. Same fence, same sliding table accessories, same riving knife and blade guard, same(?) motor 3hp 15A, same insert plate, etc. I believe it's fundamentally a variant of the MBS design. Anyway, all of that is besides the point. It's funny isn't it? At the time, I really sweated the details. But after 6-12 months use, none of that really matters. It's just a great saw that works, and I'm really happy with the quality - well machined, accurate, powerful.

Yeah, that's my vibe. I can't say there are any major issues with the fence. Sure, it might be nice to have Incra level micro-adjustment and repeatability, but IDK, I'm learning that stop blocks and relative dimensioning is a great way to work. My only tiny gripe with the function of the fence is that the two plastic set screws for adjusting the fence clearance lose their set position over time, causing the fence face to shift out square slightly with the table. It's a simple fix, and a bit of loctite likely solves it permanently.
