    Default Aftermarket Table Saw Fence?

I am looking for a new fence for my table saw (an older Hare and Forbes unit). The only options that I have been able to find are (within Australia):

    1) Carba-Tec Heavy Duty Tablesaw Fence - $395
    http://www.carbatec.com.au/machinery...tablesaw-fence

    2) Torquata After-market Saw Fence TSF-2 - $329 (at 57" too long for my use)
    http://www.timbecon.com.au/products/...ies-332_1.aspx

    3) Torquata Aftermarket Contractors Saw Fence TSF-1 - $179
    http://www.timbecon.com.au/products/...ies-332_2.aspx

    4) Jet 708773 JWSS-30F: 30-Inch SUPERSAW Fence - $300
    From Major Woodworking Equipment

    5) Incra - outside my price range

Does anyone have any experience with any of these fences? Or is anyone able to make any other recommendations?

(I did try unsuccessfully to search this forum for this information.)

    Thanks in advance.

    Rob

You still may like to consider this option. I can't see why you couldn't cut the rails off at whatever length you want.

At the risk of beating my own drum I intend to sell teh rip fence off my TTD tablesaw, and the router fence also. I just haven't had time to do it yet.

It's apparently not particularly good, but IMO similar in quality and function to those fitted to the sub $1k tablesaws from most manufacturers. I've fiddledwith the ones in carbatec, H&F and TTD and I think they are all about as awful as each other. If your interested I'm open to offers. Probably not expecting much for it. It's the usual aluminium rails front and back with a fence that clamps on the front rail only. It's probably similar to the timbecon contractors one and is 24" to one side and 12" to the other on the scale. Rails are probably a bit longer than that.

I've got an incra. I know they are dear but seriously they just supercede everything else. You could get a 32" positioner and rip fence in from the states for about $250US plus shipping (probably about another $80US). Dear I guess, but once you go incra you'll never go back.

Hi Damian I am looking at upgrading my fence system from the original supplied with my table saw. I am in the process of purchasing an Incra mitre slide to upgrade the crappy original supplied with with my Qld Trade tools contractors saw. I am at Bellbowrie and would be interested in to hear your views on the various aftermarket fence systems out there.
    Cheers

I've got an incra. I can not imagine a better system. I don't know much about the other options, but I can't imagine anything cheaper being comparible. It does joinery which is nice, but the supreme accuracy and ease of use are what gets me.

If you can't afford a new one check ebay.com for used ones in the US.

I got a V27 which is much better than the one on the TTD saw but I don't do much crosscutting. If you do a lot of it build a miter sled. I also have incra rules.

Email me using the username link and you can come up and look at mine.

    Default Jet Saw Fence

I have just purchased a Jet table saw JTS-250CS with sliding table.

The fence supplied with the saw is advertised as an upgrade, the XACTA Fence II. Unfortunately the front fence rail has been constructed incorrectly so that when bolted to the front edge of the table the Fence sits high with limited adjustment. As a replacement I am being offered the Jet 708773 JWSS-30F Fence.

Would any one know which of the two fences are the higher spec?
A recent add on the back of mag advertises the XACTA Fence II as being an upgrade.

At later date I would be updating to the INCRA system and have made enquires about fitting on a saw with a sliding table.

I have just installed an Incra TSLS 32 on my contractors saw. The saw was purchased with a sliding table on the left hand side and a router extension wing on the right. After extensive use I found that I am not much of a fan of sliding tables and so had no problem at all with removing it and placing it in a corner. In it's place I have installed a router table between the rails of the Incra. I can thorughly recomend the Incra TSLS, it is a joy to use and fairly easy to install. I don't see any after marrket rip fence comming anywhere close to it for accuracy and repeatability. The only drawback I can see with it is that there is no metric conversion kit avilable but I suppose that I will just have to get used to thinking in imperial measurements again. Be warned that you may become an Incra junky I have also purchased a mitre 1000 SE mitre slide and have just ordered the Wonderfence Joinery package (the minister of finance went ape). After extensive research I found the most cost effective means of obtaining the TSLS 32 is to buy it in Oz as freight from the US makes the cost prohibitive. I found Timbecon at $949 + $71 frieght to Brisbane to be the cheapest but if you wait till the Timber show in May you might be able screw a deal out of someone. For smaller items such as the Wonderfence and mitre slide that can fit in one box I can recomend Incremental Tools in the US. Hope this helps. If you would like to see the full working setup I am happy for you to call in, I'm not far from Damian and picked up lots of hints and tips when I assisted him with the instalation of his Incra system.
    Cheers

    Hi Dickyboy,

Did you buy the saw from Major Woodworking Equipment? When I spoke to them about fences, they offered me the JWSS-30F Fence, saying they were old stock (as in several years old), and they had about 5 in stock.

It sounds to me that they are trying to off-load old stock onto you to solve your problem cheaply.

    Default Jet Saw Fence

Thank you for your replies. I did think that maybe the sliding table would be an issue and being and engineer I can see how I could become an Incra junky. Unfortunately I am in Berwick, Vic some way from the Sunshine State, otherwise I would have. I will check out Timbercon and hang out for the XACTA fence.

The offer is ex Brisbane, which makes for difficulty when there are problem like this. I also contacted Jet direct (Bris) but I don’t seam to be getting the customer service I believe I should get from such I large company. My last option is that I can send the complete saw table back.

    Thanks again for your inputs.

    Chicka,

I assume the long rails weren't available ?

I've hardly had time to use mine. It's killing me, but one thing after another keeps comming up...

Hoping to get some time over easter...

    Damian
No the long rails were a shipping nightmare and were hard to get so I just had to get the short rails sorry about that. When they arrived last Monday I just could not resist chucking a sicky and installing them. If you would like to come down just email me and we'll set it up. Hopefully the Wonder fence will arrive from the states for Easter and I will be able play big time. If I'm a good boy the minister of finance might even let me buy some wood at the Timber and Working with Wood Show.

    Cheers

I'll come down and help if you want me to, but if your right on your own I have a lot on right now. Bought a camper van and wood chipper on friday, and I had hoped to spend some time with her ladyship this easter. Bit burned out and need a break...

But as I say if you want another set of hands I'm happy to help. I am looking forward to seeing your saw set up.

I was investigating getting a TSF-1 last week, It's amazing how prices can go up in seven months. Now they are going for $285 from the same place.
