Default Avoiding rust on Cast Iron Tablesaws etc

I thought wD40 etc would do the trick but now understand the rust inhibiting properties are fairly temporary.

What do i use to maintain the fine finish on my Jet Supersaw tables???

I'm a big UB trad wax fan for my TS, but on my TS used exclusively with a metal cutting blade which gets very wet from water cooling and covered with metal grit, I have started to use camelia oil since it seems to stick better to the surface and last longer than the wax.

I throw old sheets over my machines at the end of the day. The rust comes from moisture laden air touching a cool surface. The sheets create a pocket of still air and I get little rust, if any. The tops are wiped down occasionally with either camellia oil or trad wax. During use I wipe the surface with a rag soaked in paraffin.

You can get Silverglite from CarbaTec or Felder.

I also use Trad wax on heaps of things now. Bottom of hand planes both wood and steel, bottom of router, buzzer, thicknesser etc. You only need a light coat too.

Thanks to everyone for the quick and informative feedback - looks like between Superglide and Trad Wax problem solved!

Silverglide in the original German packaging - Silbergleit(?)- from Felder. They have even supplied it as a prize for the 'lucky door prize' draw

When I was googling for a similar thread I found this out on the WWW.

"I had to store my cabinet saw in my new place, and had to take the top off to get it through the door. I laid the top and wings top side down on carpet in a room; carpet, as turned out that had dog pee in it. When I went to reassemble the saw, the top was rusted so badly that it stuck to the carpet."

How much pee and how long did it sit on the carpet
