Smaller Blade on Tablesaw?
I have a Jet Contractor saw that takes a 10" (254mm) with 5/8" (16mm) arbor. I have a number of blades, but don't have a thin kerf ripping blade that I need.
I do have a brand new 235mm thin kerf ripping blade for my big Triton though. I'm only cutting 50mm thick timber, so I couldn't see any problem with using it on the tablesaw, just the cutting speed would be less.
Are there any problems I'm not aware of using the smaller dia blade?Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Dear Neil,
Shouldn't be any problems at all, except for a slightly higher tendency for "chipout" on the exit-side of the cut. My 12" direct-drive Site Saw spins at only about 2900rpm, compared to about 4000rpm for proper 12" Table Saws, and I haven't been killed yet due to kickback . The difference isn't all that much anyway with the two sizes you are talking about. You might want to have a bit of a test-run on some scrap, though, to see whether the Splitter behind the blade is still happy to run with the thinner-kerf 235mm'er...
Good Luck,
Batpig.

I generally only use 235mm cheap blades on my sawbench as I use whatever timber I scrounge. I don't mind writing off a cheapie from hitting too many nails.

Thanks for the comments. I didn't think it would be a problem, but I will check the splitter and do a trial.

If you're measuring, ideally the splitter thickness should be somewhere between the thickness of the blade measured at the teeth, and thickness of the main body of the blade. Not too hard to make up a new splitter (out of whatever material is the correct thickness) to go with the smaller blade.
