benefit of very large blade table saw?
came across these table saw with very large blade, ie 500/550mm.
whats the benefit of very large blade? apart from height? if you want height then take it to bandsaw?
or longer blade life? but 550mm blade is $$$ compare to 350mm blade.
so I wonder, why?
thanks guys

Cutting speed.
Resawing bandsaws are about 4000 fpm.
The Harwi 210 as per your picture has a 600 mm blade.
15HP @2800 rpm that's 2800 x 2ft x pi = 17000 fpm so should cut about 4 times faster than a small resaw bandsaws.
Of course this is not the only thing that determines cut rate, sawdust clearance is important so the size of the gullet also plays a role.
For a price there are also bigger bandsaw too.
The one I operate at the tree loppers yard is 27HP with a 36" wide cut.
Although it only operates at 4500-5000 fpm it has a 1TPI blade with deep gullets
I've seen machines with 100mm wide blades with 0.5 TPI driven by 40kW motors that can fair rip though 60" wide cuts.
On large pieces of timber it's also much easier to tilt and angle a circular blade rather than the wood.
One of the reason why machines like 6 figure $$ like Hundeggers which use a 600mm circular blade.

You need a bloody big bandsaw to keep up with a table saw feed. Also, you can't run a rebate or trench with a bandsaw; not saying you would use this machine for that, but you could.

You don't have to use a big blade though, it just gives you the option. I think someone's doing a panel saw that can take a 550mm blade with the scriber removed, but it will work just as well with a 300mm
