2nd May 2008, 03:35 PM #76Regarding the time, I included the walking to the wall where the box is etc., not just starting with the blade sitting on the saw and the spanner in my hand.
cheers

Guess I won't be including any AKE blades. The importer made very clear he wasn't interested in having his blades compared to the equivalent of what's being shipped out of China (Freud, CMT)

Thats very arrogant, do they know their blades dont measure up in terms of value or arent they that much better? Seems to me if the product is any good it should stand on its own. Wake up its a global market place.
Anyway China is only sending us back our own iron ore after value adding 1000% - wonder who the fools here are....

I certainly don't expect my little comparison will draw vast crowds of companies wanting to showcase their product, but then I've had others say no, and I'd still be prepared to do business with them after.

Stuart,
Did you offer to buy the AKE blade, or were you looking for him to supply it free for your testing?Cheers.
Vernon.

Supply or loan - I'm not spending $1000s on blades to do comparisons when I don't make a cent from my website (and they get advertising from it). If I was rich - sure - why not. The discussion didn't get that far anyway.
If that sounds a bit harsh, do take into account that I don't get any money from my website, and spend 100s of hours on it. Each 30 minutes of video is around 4 hours work alone.
So far the blades I have for the review have been supplied as the companies involved believe in what I'm doing with the site, and that the exposure is worth it to them. I in turn will try to provide the best unbiased views I can and let the blades stand on their own.
Fwiw, just picked up the sound meter for the weekend testing (and also for a safety segment I'm doing)."Clear, Ease Springs"

This is what I did
Remove insert
raise the balde
Get spanners
Loosen arbour nut
Remove arbour nut and flange
Remove blade
Put blade in rack
Take blade out of rack
Replace blade
Replace flange
Finger tighten arbour nut
Tighten with spanners
Put spanners back to rack
lower the blade
Replace insert
It took 55 seconds (normal speed). Would have been happy if it was a bit over a minute. Sorry but it is true.

well its like comparing a Triton Orbital sander to a Festool ETS 150. You wouldn't give it a second thought, or at least I wouldn't. You get what you pay for, and in the industry time is money, so you need dependability and reliability without compromise.
The only brands I see in factory's are AKE and Leuco. Freud and CMT would be like seeing toys, however I'm sure they are still a very good quality.I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

No-one turns the power off or pulls the plug while changing blades? (admittedly I only turn and lock the switch button)
