Default Carba-Tec vs Hafco (Table Saw)

    Hi WWF,

After agonising over which table saw to buy for some months now I am going to bite the bullet and buy one this weekend. After much analysis and deduction I have shortlisted it down to two models:

    CarbaTec - 10" Contractors Saw (CTJ-650)
    Hafco Wood master (SB-12)

Price is about the same for both so not a consideration at this stage (unless I can secure a discount).

Any feedback on these model would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers

With the help of AndrewO I have a comparitive spec listing. On paper the Hafco looks the better choice however i have a strong relationship with Carba-tec with most of my ticket items in my man cave coming from there.

A 12" blade has a greater depth of cut. You cna put a 10" blade on a 12" saw but not vice versa. I use chinese 9 1/4" blade when resawing recycled timber in case of nails.

If it really requires a 15 amp supply and you have to rewire your garage to accomodate that it's probably the deal killer.

The small differences in the sizes and specs are irrelevant, and the larger ones are probably more about how the saw was measured.

You might consider the TTD cabinet saw.

The fences on both of those were pretty ordinary when I was looking, and the fences look the same. You will probably find they move slightly as you tighten the handle.

The carbatec mobile base will probably fit the hafco, but I'm not sure what base you've priced at $49. You can also screw some castors vertically to the legs and wheel it about like a wheelbarrow. This is surprisingly effective on the planer thicknesser I bought recently, although that is a 50 kg machine not 150 kg.

The Ruler on the fence of the CTJ-650 is useless,

The red line indicator sits about 10 mill above the ruler, which is in half cm increments.

    Thanks Damian,

Went and checked out both the saws yesterday and did a direct comparison. The Carbatec just looked to be the better quality table. The finish was far superior and the 5 year warrantee is hard to go past.

I pick it up on Saturday so time will tell how good it is. The mobile base is on sale at the moment - 50% off.
