Default New Carbatec left tilt cabinet saw

The TSC-10HB seems to be excellent value but one criticism that has been voiced a number of times is the guard/splitter arrangement. I would much prefer a riving knife (and preferably left tilt) but the only option up to now seemed to be the Jet Supersaw Euro version which won't take a dado.

Does anyone know anything about this new carbatec saw?
    http://www.carbatec.com.au/store/ind...450_3030_19800

Is it a re-badge of any particular saw?

It looks like it has a riving knife and is also left tilt. In price it is a big step up from the TSC but it looks promising.

Looks slick. Bit exy for me though. Notice they don't specify the arbor length, so you should check that before you buy if you want to run a dado blade.

Also appears to be of the type that has the guard attached to the riving knife, which may mean that it extends above the blade, meaning you still need to remove it for non-through cuts...

Well, someone beat me to it. I just saw the pic in their on-line catalog - looks a lot like a clone of the Jet/Powermatic 2000, possibly without the built-in castors.

Unfortunately I won't have time to go there in person until after Easter to see if one is on the floor - maybe some Forum member will be calling in at a Carbatec store & be willing to give us a report??? Hmmmm?

If it is a clone of the PM2000, it is listed at about $800-1000 less than the real thing.

I have looked fairly closely at this table saw at the Melbourne store. It seems to have a very beefy arbor, a dust collection shroud around the blabs and a dlade lock. In essence it looks like a Powermatic 2000 but without the built-in castors. I think this piece of innovation has been patneted by Powermatic and won't be available in other clones.

It looks like a very good machine but they have been promising to supply them since last November - still waiting!

I don't know whether they include a miter gauge - there wasn't one on the saw and the new catalog doesn't show one. As I recall the miter gauge was cite as an improvement over other versions when the Powermatic came out. If it is not included than the price tag of $2795 is looking a bit steep since a good miter gauge is likely to cost a few hundred. (I had a recent quote from Gary Pye for the Powermatic 2000 itself -$3300.)

Carbatec Melbourne now have these in stock and are selling them for $1,795.

I now have one in my shed but haven't had time to open the boxes. Hopefully next weekend.

Bill, is that the TS10-L 1PH you are talking about? If so, the Carbatec site lists these for $2795 with an additional $229 for the table and legs.
Are they on special or something?
If so, wouldn't mind having a look at yours when you get it set up, I'm not that far away from Sutton Grange.

    Fred,

Yes it is the TS-10L 1PH and you are very welcome to come and have a look. I will post a photo when it is set up and you can pop down then or you can come on any weekend - our cellar door is open from 11AM to 5PM on weekends and I am either in the winery or setting up my woodshop - details are at www.butterflycrossing.com.au

I'd love to know if they are selling at this price too. Hopefully will finally get to buy a new TS in the next month.

    G'day,

They're currently $2, 795 at C/T, I'd get one if they were $1,795, since they're not it looks like it's the old 10HB this weekend.

There is no doubt I have a TS-10L 1PH in the shed and I paid $1,795 - reduced from $2,795. They had 10 in stock at that price. I didn't hesitate and drove home with my new toy in the back of the van.

    G'day Bill,

So is it considerably better than the 10HB? If so I'll get it one.

I bought one a few weeks ago but was later told that they have decided not to carry the line into the future hence they are being cleared out. Fortunately they have done the right thing and given me the difference for other goodies. Carbatec certainly did right by me!

They were originally delivered without the throat plate, riving knife and upper blade dust collector (and no manual). The replacement stuff is different to the picture in the catalog with a different upper guard/dust collector assembly - it has a riving knife but the guard seems to be the usual US type without easy means to disengage. This means that it is very difficult to get your hands in to remove the throat plate. However the whole machine is very nice - a lot beefier I believe than the 10HSB - It also has a dust shroud around the blade and looks as though it will allow much better dust collection. Unfortunately I have not yet had time to put it all to use. It looks much like the Powermatic 2000- without the built-in castors.

    At $1795 I think it's a very good buy.
