    Default Carbatec Table saw,

    Hey Koala,

If you have the space, money and Power supply, you should have it, what is the price of a new one, if you get it for half or less go for it. Another thing to think about is Do you Neeeed it? (of course you do, thats what the little voices say to me.) If only Cairns was closer to Perth.

Recently there was a thread on a 12" tablesaw for sale here. It turned out to be the same as mine (just branded differently), and I think that the asking prince was about $650 - perhaps a little more. It was a reasonably good purchase since it came with an upgraded fence (a Biesemeyer type). And later a sliding table (incomplete) was added. Still, it lacked a stand, and it had not been used for a few years, so there was no knowledge of its performance. I think it had the original blade (which is poor).

The thing is, you need to know what you are looking at. The owner of the above saw did not know what he had, or what was missing.

Mine is worth at least double $650 to me (the basic set up was $1500 about 12 years ago). Possibly not to someone else. I also have added a Biesemeyer clone. I have a full sliding table. There is the correct dedicated stand. There are aftermarket crosscut and rip blades. The original belt was replaced with a link belt. There is an extension wing with a router table. It all moves on wheels. It works like a Swiss watch. It is not for sale (but I am always open to offers )

To help you get an idea of yours, here is mine ...

    Hope this helps.

    Regards from Perth

    Derek

Hi Koala, I bought the saw that Derek is referring to, ended up paying $625 for it with the sliding table. The previous owner did not use the original stand, which was not with the saw and also the blade guard holder / riving knife was missing other than that everything was there.

I have modified the stand that Jeff had made and also made a new out feed table set up as I have refitted the sliding table, it was the slider that had not been fitted or used for a long while not the saw, it is in very good nick. My intention is to use it for a while and then make a new stand, fit a router table etc.
I have given it a bit of a tune up, but it was all pretty good even after being dismantled and carted 400 odd kms. in a trailer. It did come with a near new 96 (I think) tooth melamine cutting blade that is a bonus, I am using the original combo blade just now but will replace it next time I go to the big smoke.
Anyway the point is that for what I need in a table saw, given that I have a nice 17" band saw, this contractor saw is plenty adequate for me. What I have saved by buying second hand is being invested in quality hand tools / accessories etc. So my advice would be if it serves your needs and is in good nick go for it. By the way, I would not have paid $625 without the sliding table set up and also the biesemeyer fence added to it's value, cheers.
