Default compound mitre saw - review?

I tried to find a good review on compound mitre saws. I couldn't really find any forum threads that discusses this.

Does anyone have any good suggestions? Perhaps you can comment on the saws you have used in the past and which ones work for you and which don't.

In the past, I have used a Ryobi and that was surprisingly good for its price, but the mechanism to set the angles accurately couldn't be trusted (BYO square to position it correctly). The laser light was also a little bit off, but can be adjusted easily enough. Also found it a little difficult to slide the saw over the gliders. Had to clean them very often.

What are your experiences? And which compound saw would you recommend.

I did find this information, but I have no idea whether it is independent and it seems all saws have a high score.

Either Makita (made in Japan not China) or Bosch blue series (professional, green is handyman) or Hitachi

    I prefer Makita

After doing my own research over the last few weeks I'm going for the Bosch 12" blue withe guide arm system. My second choice would be the De Walt 12", I had a demo at work by the De Walt dealer and was impressed but no the Bosch wins on space and just plane good reviews.

Depends on your budget as well. Mine was small so I got a used Makita LS1013 for a good price on Gumtree. The old made in Japan models are bomb proof and hard to beat. Poured over dozens and dozens of "what which CMS should I buy?" threads and no one ever had a bad thing to say about the older Makita's.

I didn't look too hard at current models as I'd need to spend 2-3 times as much to get something equivalent in quality. Although I was considering the Bosch GCM10S as I liked that it required less space behind the saw to use the slide.

I used to own a Makita, was thinking about moving to Festool but I cant justify spending $2500 on a mitre saw when the industrial grade mitre saw, Omga, sells for $3000.

I have an Omga now but I dont even use it, I use my panel saw to cut.

The dust collection from the Bosch is not so good but then if you need good dust collection from the Festool the vacuum cleaner costs how much? I haven't tried the Bosch with a vac so it might be a lot better than I experience now using using the cyclone and a surrounding cabinet.

Maybe a trip to Australia might be in order (subject to airfares, exchange rates and NZ's import limits). Perhaps spoil SWMBO with a trip to Australia (ulterior motive of course).
Currently the KS120 can be had for A$1681 at Alltools (Melbourne).

Well at the Brisbane TWWW show I put my money where my mouth is and got the Bosch. I know my research will pay off.

    Good deal, or average?

At the last Melbourne show, I did not see too many good deals, and just gauging if I should hang on until the next Melbourne show or otherwise.

yep, a good deal with stand and free delivery. I priced up internet prices for the same setup and they still beat them. I also bought an 80 tooth Diabol blade for finer stuff.
