Default Correct name and source for fence position indicator/magnifier

Hi, I have a HAFCO SB12 "Contractors" table saw. The fence on the saw seems to be quite well made and move smoothly and accurately (within reason for the item). However, the exact position of the fence was shown by a small piece of clear plastic with a red line on it. It was fragile and broke off - so I no longer have an accurate position marker. I would like to replace it with a good quality magnifying glass lens with line indicator but I do not know what the correct term for such a thing is, nor where to find one.

Carbatec do sell a plastic version but have no stock.

I would appreciate assistance or suggestions as to what it is correctly termed and where I might find one please.

Maybe you will have to go direct to the source, clicking the link for spares on the machinery house website under SB-12. If I were to name your part I would call it a rip fence indicator.

Thanks for the response and suggestion. Hare and Forbes website does not list any such part - in fact it has only a few spares listed for its table saws and nothing like that in its extensive "Miscellaneous" category.

However, I am really looking for a much improved version, not just another rubbish piece of plastic.

I may have to look for a digital read-out as I see the H&F do sell some of those for some machines (though I don't know if they fit table saw fences) and I know other makers sell digital scales and read-outs.

The only digital readout for a table saw fence I am aware of is the Wixey

    Saw Fence Digital Readout

I have one of these and I think they are the best thing since sliced bread, got mine on special from the US with a Wixey digital angle readout included.

If I had my druthers, I'd get an incra. But if you haven't got a spare grand and you're happy with your existing fence, then a Wixey is a great compromise. I've got mine accurate to 0.04mm, and it takes only a minute to recalibrate if you remove your fence. I find it easy to read (easier than using the normal tape measure on the saw).

    Default Thanks for advice

    Thanks Big Shed and Trav,

I have seen the Wixey on professional machines I have used (though not on a saw - thicknesser and drum sander) and they seem pretty good. I had not thought past a sight glass sort of gadget for my saw but that would certainly give me a higher order of accuracy that I am used to with this machine.

The Incra would cost more than my saw so might be rather overdoing it.

    Regards

    David
