Default De Walt 744 XP - XE Type 3 ,........no power

    Hi,

Just reporting on what has happened to my beloved De Walt table saw. One week ago on turning it on, there was a pause,...hmm, this is not good. Then nothing. I removed the ON OFF switch casing and tested the front and back power lugs with a multimeter and no continuity (with switch on). On googling this, seems its a common problem with the switch breaking down after a lot of use.

I had Banana Coast Power Tools Coffs Harbour (De Walt agent), order me a new switch, arrived today $105. I installed it, had the wires written down on a bit of paper to ensure it was correct. My saw went, great,...let's try again,...nothing,...!!

Removed it all and no continuity with my multimeter. Was the new switch faulty?,.....or is there something else going on that was blowing my switch/es. The table saw is now in my back of my car and heading back to Coffs Harbour tomorrow, to see what the boys up there say.

If you put power straight to the motor you can test it, that’ll tell you if it’s the motor.
Also if you multimeter the switch outgoing wire, to the motor, and it’s live and 240v it may prove switch is ok but motor is stuffed

Thanks Runningman. My electronics skill are pretty limited. Your comments sound good, I might leave this to the professionals at the Power Tools Shop tomorrow.

Sorry Chaps,I forgot to do an update on my DeWalt table saw. After buying a new Power Switch after even getting mate an electrician mate to check the old one again for me on his multimetre, and my saw still not working, I took it up to Banana Coast Power Tools Coffs Harbour. Turns out the brushes were just about completely gone. They were replaced, so now my DeWalt has new brushes, new Power Switch and is humming over again very nicely.
