Thread: Deal of the Century - Sliding Table Saw

I just visited SCM in Melb and had a look at the saw. It looks very nice.

The cross cut fence is pretty short and there is only 1 flip stop. Any ideas about modifications? I suppose one could just get some aluminium T track extrusion and make their own stops.

The next model up was a minimax which was about $8800

Chris, your Hammer - what is the length of the cross cut sled?

I've used his. I think it's is about 1200 at a guess

So you looked at the Artisan PS315?

I dont think these are the same machines. The IWL has a different cabinet and crosscut table/fence system. Even the rip fence is different - this rip fence looks like what comes from a budget cabinet table saw whereas the IWL one looks like a panel saw rip fence.

It actually looks like a smaller version of Leda's 'Prima' saw - which I saw last yr when I was there. I think Kuffy has the 2500 version.

There is also the one 'Woodman' which is sold by MMVIC and I think gregory's in QLD

None of these are as cheap as the IWL though at this price

Table stroke is 1410mm on mine. That reminds me I promised mine to Dave in my will as he thinks it is a good thing and I haven't changed that yet.

I just bit the bullet and bought the IWL panel saw. Still not sure how good the 90deg stop will be on the crosscut fence but I dont think I'll move it much and just use it at the front.

Bit sad as I literally bought a sawstop less then 12 months ago but there are aspects about the saw stop which i hate

The IWL website crashed as I tried to pay with paypal, so I tried directly with CC. It crashed again so I reset browser and finally got the transaction completed. Now I check my inbox and I have just been charged twice lol. Hopefully this is the only problem I have with this saw

The Hammer comes in two versions, if you buy it without the outrigger as I did the CC fence is short, about 930, if it is bought with the outrigger the CC fence is a about 1350. Fence extensions can be bought but I haven't had the need. I have both because I initially bought the saw sans outrigger and when I got a job that required it I bought it later on. I suppose that is one big advantage of Hammer machines, all accessories can be added later at no cost penalty as you find the need and your pockets are deep enough.

By sled do you mean the fence or the outrigger or neither? The outrigger frame is 780 wide and the frame and table combined is 1070 total.

I hope you have a great time learning how to do stuff differently, I would never go back to a cabinet saw and at one time considered selling my mitre saw because the slider can do the same stuff. See if you can score an extra flip stop as part of the deal.

I think I will end up putting my own aluminium extrusion and making my own flip stops with microadjustment. I made stops with microadjustments for my mitresaw and its awesome. I make picture frames and being able to shave off a tiny and predictable amount is awesome. (I cannot be bothered with shooting boards as I dont really do the frames for fun, just need to get it done)

I have some experience with a griggio 3200 panel saw and used an old robland combo machine which had a sliding table so I'm actually really excited not having to pick up a crosscut sled again!

G'day Aldav doesn't look to much like the saw I own except for the PS315.

Maybe I should get a comission from SCM for all the advertising

Yep agreed Roy, the Axminister one looks more like the Logosol branded similar model numbered one. I can't imagine there is too much 'fat' left in the price, after the 25% reduction, for the seller to share with you. It's one mighty fine looking saw for that money.

Seems I came across this thread a bit late. I emailed IWoodLike on 28 December to enquire about buying one, and called them later that day only to find they were closed until 7 January. Today I received a reply to my email, advising that all Artisan PS315 were sold. A shame, since it seemed really good value for money and better featured compared to other sliding table saws available in the same price range. I guess I will just have to put up with the Triton WorkCentre a bit longer...

The SCM rep I spoke to (yesterday) said there were only 2 left and they were stocked in the Sydney. I accidentally ended up buying 2 last night it is possible that they were both allocated to me.

I will sell you my second one for $10,000 lol

Nah, on Monday they will reverse one of mine which may put it back into stock so worth asking the rep and get in on it if possible

SCM rep said they have been having huge issues getting stuff from China and is unsure when this model will be back - could be 3 months if no problems but could also be indefinite. Having issues with minimax and SCM models made in China so they're actively not promoting those. Something to do with China's domestic red tape - they have an order for dust extractors and have been waiting for a year! Good luck

Bad news - apparently the two which were 'in stock' were sold but their systems werent updated due to lack of staffing over the holiday period so I didnt get one

I had a feeling that might be the case. I received a cordial email from IWL on Sunday listing other table/panel saws that were still available; however all were outside my budget.
