Waldo the erratic operation is because it is not soldered to the circuit board. It sounds like it is breaking contact intermitently when it is moved.
Is it possible to remove the back casing and solder it in place?
Failing that, put a small bend in the contact area so it is a tight fit. It will make better contact and hopefully not fall out again.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Waldo, I would be claiming for a fix/replacement under warranty.

    It shouldn't be doing this.

Don't have one Waldo and possibly a silly idea but would it be worthwhile to use a tiny drop of CA to "hold" it in place so that it can't move/fall out. Soldering would certainly solve the problem in a better way but unless you really know what you are doing there is always a possibility of "cooking" the bits.

    Just a thought.

    Regards,
    Bob

    Thumbs up

    G'day Bob,

I wouldn't solder it as I'm all thumbs in that department, so like NCArcher had suggested and you've done similarly a drop of CA glue could be the idea, then I thought of the neighbour who's an electronics bloke, so I might wander over on Saturday or earlier and see if he he up for soldering in place or something more permanent so it doesn't fall out again.

Big Shed, I thought of sending it back under warranty, but I've only got 3 bits of paper with it, and none of them is a warranty. And I don't throw those sort of things out.
