Problem with Dewalt 10inch table saw
Hi All
Can I get some help or input with this problem please, I have been using a Dewalt 10 table saw Model DW744, its about 4 yrs old, I noticed that the fence is about 0.25 out of square to the blade. The fence is running to the right side of the table when standing in front of the input side of the saw, I attemped to realign the fence as per instructions in the manual, but there is not enough play to to square things up, it does say if this occurs the machine should be returned to the factory to be fixed.
This is the second time this has happened, the first time Dewalt replaced the machine it was only 8 to10 days old. I know this will not happen this time, so I thought I might get some feed back or see if anyone else has had a similar a problem with this machine before contacting Dewalt again, I must mention that the blade is square to the table so it is the fence that is out.

Dear Colbra,
I'm afraid I haven't got a DW744, but I noticed you weren't getting any replies, so I thought I might first just ask whether you were talking about mm, inches, or degrees, when you said that the fence was out by 0.25 to the blade. I take it that this is the amount of divergance of the fence at the rear of the blade when the fence is just touching the front of the blade...
You mentioned in your post that the blade was square to the table, so I'm figuring that you are able to adjust the blade's alignment. Would it therefore be possible to align the blade to the fence? I don't think it would affect anything drastically to have the blade out from the table by a couple of degrees. Mind you, the fence would have to stay put in it's current alignment - will it do this? (ie. so that the fence stays aligned with the blade once you have aligned the blade to the fence). In other words, is the fence out by the same amount no matter whether you are pulling it (and the attached rails) away from the blade, or pushing it back towards the blade? You'll have to measure the difference in offsets of the fence to both the front and the rear of the blade under the two different circumstances of the fence being pushed towards the blade (which you have already done), as well as the fence being pulled away from the blade by (say) an inch (There is a certain way you can accurately measure the front and rear offset distances in the latter case with a Vernier or Digital Caliper. If the difference in offsets remain consistent no matter whether you have pushed the fence towards the blade, or pulled it away, then at least you know that the fence is being consistent enough to be worth aligning the blade to...
In closing, given the DW744's fence/sliding-rail setup, I wonder if your problem is as simple as a couple of loose screws that connect the fence to either the front or rear rail, thus allowing this misalignment to develop over time...
Best Wishes,
Batpig.

Hi Batpig
The amount the saw is out is in mm and the blade was squared against the mitre groove.
After I didn't get any replies from the forum, I contacted Dewalt in Sydney,I think they were aware of the problem and said if I had followed the manual, which I had, to bring the machine down, and they would elongate the slot for the adjustment and would fix things up I also spoke to the helpline in Melbourne and they reafirmed that the machine was of a quality product and it would be resovled. Thank you for your input and I will let you know of the actual outcome Thanks colbra
