Elu 172 TGS has mysteriously stopped.
Hi all, I spent a day working with the Elu 172, having replaced the broken belt.
The next day, she wouldn't start. I jiggled the power cable and away she went, no problems.
Now, inevitably, she's stopped again, and now amount of jiggling get's her going.
Any advice on where to start trouble shooting? I'm hoping there is a fairly common weakness someone has encountered before. Typically, it's a pretty simple and bullet-proof machine.
There is just a big capacitor and a small circuit board (shown in photos), as well as the motor itself (not shown). I suspect the wires or the capacitor, but I have no smoking gun. I would take this for repairs but I have no idea who would look at it.

Turn it on, if it doesn't spin , give it a spin by hand. If it starts and keeps going the problem is that large capacitor .

Before you put the belt on, did you give it a spin freehand, see if the bearings are clear.

I would suspect the power cord wiring first of all as you jiggled the power cord and it went.

Definately the main power cable
Folks, thank you for your suggestions.
Avery, I tried the spinning by hand (via a long stick) and no go. But now I know what the capacitor is for! Thanks.
Fly, yes, the blade and motor both span smoothy before and after I replaced the belt. The saw ran for a whole day following this replacement. No problems there.
Big Shed, you win the money this time, as I wiggled the power cable again (the lowest of the three cables entering the junction box in the photo) and away she went. But only once. There must be a loose contact or damage to the cable though I cannot see anything (it looks heavy pretty heavy duty to me), so I will try to find someone qualified to rewire it.
Where, in Melbourne, can you take and old tool to an old sparky who 'gets it' that I like my older tools?
Cheers, rubberwood

I had the same problem. I had been using it fairly constant for 4 days but then the switch seemed to be the culprit. When I got it home an electrician mate dropped in. I suggested to him it could be the switch. he took the plug off the end of the cable and pulled each wire with his pliers. The active was fractured. he cut the cord at that point and put back the plug and it hasn't missed a beat since. Great saw!!!
Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

IMG_2632.jpgIMG_2633.jpgIMG_2631.jpgIMG_2630.jpgI bought one of these flip saws a few weeks ago quite cheap really, only to find out when I started it that it didn't work!,i have replaces the finder relay on the circuit board, still doesn't work,i have just replaced the large capacitor with a brand new one(exactly the same as the original, note, the saw does start when spun manually? I really don't know now what the problem could be?any feed back would be great.

Get it checked by a qualified electrician. Sounds like it could have a broken wire/connection.
