    Default Evolution Table Saw

Need a bit of advice. Currently using a Triton 2000 Workcentre but am considering a Tablesaw to get better accuracy. Does anyone have knowledge of an Evolution brand saw?. Sold in Australia by Total Tools at about $550. Are they any good for the price? They get reasonable reviews on YouTube. The Triton is in excellent condition and has some extras which would probably cover the cost of the Evolution.

I don't know about that particular model but I have an Evolution Rage 3 table saw and it works well.

    Hi ken howe,
i have just purchased Evolution Rage 5 s on Friday and now have to wait until it shipped. I find it annoying I can't buy it outright at the shop. I like to inspect what I purchase.

From what I already know the blades have a different spindle bore to everyone else. That is 25.4 bore as opposed to 30mm for the rest.

That should not be a problem as I can machine a reducer as I want tooth counts that Evolution cannot provide, though I still may have a problem as the evolution runs at lesser rpms.

i don't use saws much so I have opted for a compact model. The sliding tray is a good feature and I am hoping the plastic and die cast zinc parts are reasonably well made. The tools and the push stick are attached to the sides in easy reach.

The 3 year warranty is encouraging.

I discounted a Makita 100N as it it faired pretty poor on reviews.

    Does this help?

Would you actually machine one though? They have "teeth" on the outer edge to assist in remaining located in the blade, and at say $10.90 each they hardly seem worth the effort to do anything but buy...

    Correction to the above,

I "tried to purchase" an Evolution rage 5, I have been to the local Total Fools and found they did not have one in stock and was told had difficulty with their supply chain in obtaining one for me.

That being too hard for them I was directed to buy with TT online but I have had no such luck there either,as then paying them online and waiting a week for a local in shop delivery ( for collection) the manager still professed problems in getting said saw.

Back again after waiting a week to TT support ( yeah right ?) who were working from home due to Wuhan Virus according to message which then asked me to leave my message to which they would reply.

I left a message asking when it would arrive.

After another day Total Fools support at this stage have left no message. A few days later I receive an email from them apologizing as they unable to to supply the saw and will reimburse the money.

I am unable to make comment on the Evolution table saw as I can't buy one. It will be interesting to see if you can obtain one. I see pitfalls with Total Fools being the sole supplier for that particular saw. I am looking at other table saws now.

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I am very cautious at the moment about buying anything not on the shelf - as it seems either getting stock or being able to pay for it are a growing problem.

I hope it works out for you.

Thanks for all your responses. Talked to local Total Tools last week. They said they had one but they also said someone just returned one because it was so noisy neighbours were complaining. Guess I’ll have to keep putting the 50 cents in the piggy bank to get something a bit better. Doesn’t seem to be many good used brands around

I just sold my Triton and bought one of these. My wife reckons there is not much diference in noise level, probably a diferent noise due to lower RPMs.I'm happy with it, it really doesn't have negatives compared to the Triton and has a few positives including extra blade height, blade tilt, a surprisingly good fence. I bought a Makita 64 tooth blade that came with the adaptor ring but for other blades the Bosch rimg is $3.25 at Total Tools. I enquired about Saxton blades as they seem popular in the UK and an 80 tooth blade is about $33 but they were not interested in Aus. Time will tell if I have made the right choice but so far I am happy.

Hi perthwoody, did you purchase the Evolution R5 recently? I am tying to get an answer out of TT regarding their supply. If I am successful I am looking at buying blades from the the UK. the Saxton blades review well and given they have the right size bore that is a big selling point.

For the price I can live with the fence issues etc I think. If I paid $1300 for a dewalt I might be a bit disappointed with some of its limitation and for the price MAkita, Metabo should be going that way (if they are listening?) - Evolution would be fine I think Until extend the shed to get a contractor/cabinet jobbie...

Yes I bought the Rage 5S 2 weeks ago. I got the only one available in WA at the time. My local store had stock due in but as there was only 1, I went across town to get it. All going well so far. I have upgraded the mitre gauge to be more like a mini cross cut sled and am almost finished a zero clearance plate. Dust collection is not great but about on par with the Triton and I will try and improve it over time. So far I am very happy with it, the Makita blade is a big improvement for crosscuts. I might wait until I visit the UK next (who knows when though) to get some Saxton blades or maybe drop some hints to Total Tools and see if they are able to bring them in. The price is very attractive.

Thanks Perthwoody - You were lucky!! I decided to take the plunge on the strength of reviews here, you tube and $$ as it looks like a great saw for the price. i dont mind a little tinkering to get things right.

But a word of caution people - I tried to order the Evolution Rage 5 unit yesterday as it was showing the unit was in stock! woohoo I thought but when I didnt get a confirmation email I tried to contact them and after numerous email enquiries from me that were unanswered it turned out to be scotch mist - TT dont have it in stock - it was the bonus blade that they have in stock - aye aye aye - TT dont know if they are coming or going at the moment. I have another order in for a Kregg Workbench and that is sitting somewhere in the ether as well... I have been given an bit of a run around with TT they dont answer contact page and you dont get much information from them when they do. Suggest stay clear from online ordering from them and buy what you can carry out of the shop!

I have also made a sanding disc for it. There are several Youtube videos on doing this for tablesaws but the Evolution can't take a very thick one. I used 6mm mdf and it just fits. If I put different grit sandpaper on both sides it may not fit!

Now Total Tools have removed it from their website. Did I get the last one?

    Hi Guys ,
I am looking at a Metabo corded 10" table.
The area rep says when he can source one he will bring it up on his regular visits.

None of the tool shops have one in stock and I told him I would not buy one sight unseen.
I am expecting a call this month.

The Metabo ticks all the boxes as far as i am concerned.

My internet research indicated that the older models had a problem with the height winder screw. It was a standard screw thread whereas the upgraded model is a Trapezoid thread.

    Cheers
    Grahame
