Default Could I get some feed back on this one please

Hi All I have been looking around for a larger table saw or combination machine for some time I have looked at Felder badged up as there Hammer range and Gabbit Group badged as Minimax range.
The big block there is having to pay a deposit and possibly wait six months for the machine to turn up in Australia.
These machines seem to be the premium level.
I had spoken to Vern TTIT who had been waiting for his Felder machine at the time for some months I also had the opportunity to speak to the Felder people at the Melbourne WWW show it was at this time I made a commitment to purchase a machine from them but because of the extraordinary delivery time I did not proceed with the purchase.
I then looked at the Minimax range but again they did not have what I wanted in the country and would order it after I pay a deposit.
I just want to look at the machine say that’s what I want, and be able to have it in my shed within a week.
Now we are back to Carba- Tec, Hare & Forbes, Gregory and Major woodworking machines from Taiwan or China it is at this point, I would like to get some information on some of these machines at this level namely a 300mm table saw with a sliding table. Here is the type of saw I am referring too MWE-MBS300 Tablesaw - Major Woodworking Equipment just to sum up on things in this post I am not bringing price into the equation only reliability and accuracy

    Colbra

    PS
After writing all this down and reading back I believe I can see the problem and that is....... There is only 22 million here in Australia and other places maybe more that 300 million and in there lies the problem.....But at the end of the day I like the Idea of being in a paddock with 22 million head of cattle all of which are Thoroughbreds and blue ribbon at that
May your saw stay sharp and your nails never bend

The wait would be too much for me I am afraid.

I got a MBS300 off Gregory Machinery about 8 years ago. I am still happy with my saw. It wouldnt be up to the Felder or Hammer standard, but it does it good enough for what I need.

Have you thought about looking at 2nd hand machines ? You might pick up something a lot quicker and cheaper than waiting for a new one.

Gregory now brings in the Laguna tablesaw and there is a recent thread about one of them.

    Default Mbs 300

I purchased an MBS 300 with a sliding table (5HP 3 phase motor) for a school and used it all day everyday for some years. It was solid and well made. When I bought a TS for my own shed the only reason I did not get another one was the price and the money I had. Depending on where you live it might be worth your while checking on the Gary Pye's price.

A new machine is only a new machine until it is used once. If I were you, I would be looking for a second hand machine in good nick. I have had two Robland combos, both second hand and have been very happy with them. The most recent purchase was an unused machine bought by the original purchaser for a contract that fell through. This saved me about $4000 on a new machine. Its so much better to be able to sight and operate prior to purchase. This idea of importing against order is great for the agent but has limited appeal for the purchaser. Also, for what its worth, I would be looking for a combo as they are so versatile.

You want the Felder quality, but you don't want to wait for it to arrive??

That's like saying you want the latest model Ferrari, but why doesn't every 2nd car dealer have one waiting on the lot, ready for you to buy?

It sounds like you have to make a choice. Top quality (at a cost of time and more money), or lower quality (and lower price) to get something right now.
If you take the 2nd option, $10 says you regret that decision every time you go to use a lower quality product.

If it were me, I'd pay the deposit to buy the Felder, and wait. (oh look, I did! (and am extremely happy every time I use it)).

I'll bet you you can't find a single Hammer/Felder owner, that has had their machine for more than 12 months, and still begrudges the delivery time.

Time heals all wounds (and using Felder will make you forget the pain of waiting, believe me).

    Rant over. ;-)

    Default Felder/Minimax Machines

    Hi Colbra,

I have a friend here who has a first rate Felder multi function machine he wants to sell. It's a 400mm over and under buzzer planer, 300 mm sliding table saw 2500mm travel, and tilt head multi-speed spindle noulder 3 phase and complete with dust extractor. The planer has had the cutter block machined to accept standard solid planer blades not the very expensive Felder throw away tooling. There's about $5k worth of tooling included. He wants $15 k ex Hobart for the lot. I have used the machine a bit for cutting sheet goods and it is what we would call "suit new buyer" except the rise and fall on the saw has stopped working, haven't investigated why as yet. He had it sold to another person who then took seriously ill and couldn't consummate the sale. If you are interested P mail me and I will put you in touch.

    Old Pete

Thank you all for replying to my question on the availability to a good quality table saw in Australia the general consensus seems to be that the MBS 300 is a good reliable machine it is made in Taiwan and has been sold here for many years it’s used in schools, tafe and men’s sheds and with the sliding table sounds good.
I think if I was going to buy a combination machine the Hammer range and Minimax range would be a wise choice.
I am sure the reason we have to wait has more to do with the size of market and the geographic position of where we are to Europe rather than the delay of the fine and precise engineering and production time in manufacturing these machines. I would not get into an argument on this matter because at the end of the day I for one love to keep the dream alive. Just to sum up on this point I do intend to go down to Gabbits and have a look at the Minimax gear they have there at the moment,
after which I may start singing the same song as other forum members.

With the Laguna saws from Gregory Machinery I have been looking at them and seem to be a great machine.
Gregory Machinery were or are part of the buying Woodman Group : Australian Suppliers of Woodworking & Metal Working Machinery

Chook I have spoken to Gary Pye on the phone in the past he seems a straight forward and honest sort of a person I would not hesitate in doing business with him and on that point I am keen to contact him about a band saw that he is selling at the moment.

Old Pete thank for giving me that information on the Machines available in Tassie my preference is to a new machine thank you also to rusty nail on the same matter.

Just in summing up I would like to wish all forum member a great happy and safe Australia Day Colbra
May your saw stay sharp and your nails never bend
