Thread: A great fix Standard Splitter and Pawl on 10"/12" Tablesaw

Hi All, this is my first thread ever so I hope I am doing it right. I have had a TSC12 (12") Tablesaw for a few years now. It has been an important tool in my workshop. However, I have always had a bug bear with the fixed Splitter and Pawl mechanism which is attached to the overhead guard. See attached photos

It has always been awkward to use (something I do not think is a good thing when working with a Tablesaw) and just not a good solution.

Anyway last month I had my Tablesaw modified by GETWOODWORKING, in Melbourne, VIC. By removing the whole mechanism and replacing it with a Riving attached to the blade raising and lowers mechanism. I get all the protection I need ie. Reduced kickback, better overhead guard, smoother operation and much easier removal on the Riving Knife. The whole operation is just better. I personally think safer. See picture of final solution.


At the moment I have a small overhead guard. My next step will be to place the Overhead Suva Guard . See the guard at the follwoing URL.

For those like me who are not very good with metal working Roy from GETWOODWORKING has created a series on templates and instructions to do the mod yourself or he will even do it for you.

I am not sure why the manufacturers do not do this from the get go, as the amount of materials used is LESS than for the product supplied with the machinery in the first place.

Anyway I just thought others my have the same issue as I have had with the standard Tablesaw. I hope this thread helps others as the mod helped me.
