Default Hafco SB12 Wings are not level

    Evening all,

I picked up a 2008 model Hafco SB-12 table saw last week. After getting the table saw home I am trying to get the levels as close to exact as possible.

One area that appears to need some adjustments is the wings. Whilst they are exactly level where they join the table, as the extend further out they seem to rise up slightly. By the edge of the wing they rise up by about 1mm maybe 2mm.

I am concerned I may have bent something when moving it around. I was lifting by the wings ... gulp.

Is a 1mm or 2mm rise an issue? I assume this would put the blade out of alignment to the timber.

Secondly - this older version does not seem to have the grub screws where the wings join the table. More recent one appear to have these. I understand these help adjust level.

Without the grub screws is there a suggested way of levelling the wings? Would it be worth replacing the bolts in case they are bent?

    I appreciate your help

I have the ST-10 and the wings are cast iron, despite me throwing my table around trying to unload it with a 12 wk old broken arm, the only things to have bent were the leg levellers, so I doubt very much that the cast iron wings would bend.
You could put paper shims in the top gap of the table-wing joint and try to level the ends down that way?

AFAIK, cast iron tents to break rather than bend; you certainly wouldn't be bending it by hand anyway. A couple of mm at the edges is only a few tenths of a degree off square, so you might not even notice it, depending on what you're making, but shimming it with slips of paper is probably the best way to get it level.

Thanks elanjacobs, I might just see how it goes first then see if it is worth adjusting.

    I appreciate the help

    Thanks Runningman

When you say paper shim. Is this simply using normal paper?

A strait bit of wood clamped to the main table makes it easy to align the wing. Just use another clamp to pull it up to the wood then tighten bolts. Aluminum cans make good shim material also.
