    Default Hafco Woodmaster any good

    Hi all,
Does anyone own a Hafco Woddmaster ST-12D (12 inch)? They are going for $1690 in Dandenong and appear to be okay however I have never owned a table saw before. I have $2000-$2500 available for a table saw, shhh don't tell my wife, (she never comes out in the shed anyway), so If they are okay I have enough money left over to go towards a Bandsaw in the future. I am open to ideas and would appreciate some advice. Thankyou

I haven't got one, but I am going to check them out when I go to the woodshow next month (or on the way home if they don't have one there).

There's not too many posts on this machine, so I dare say it is not widely used here. There are a few mentions if you do a search as W454. The specs look OK.

I too would be interested to read any opinions from those who own or have used this machine.

    Thumbs up

I have a soft spot for Hafco gear. I personally think that fror the money they are hard to beat.

I don't know exactly what saw that one is but if it is the one with the sliding table, I think it is a good one.

    I've got a Hafco SB10H, which is a smaller model, 10".
For my uses it is a good saw, solid and cuts straight (what else can I ask for). I picked it up second hand, off these forums.
I don't exactly work it into the ground, but I reckon it wouldn't miss a beat if I did. My previous TS was an emco (Austrian) but it was a lot lighter.
I am happy with it. (I've used some bigger ones, and they were heaps better, but cost more like $20,000+).
    Hope that helps,
    TM

    Default Hafco at the woodshow

    Hi all,
I guess that I will wait until I go to the wood show in Melb next month to decide wether the St-12 is worth buying. I was told that there wont be many machinery suppliers there next month and it will be more about woodturning. Does any one know if there is a list of suppliers/retailers for the upcoming show? Do you get the best deal on equipment on the first, second or last day, or if it makes any difference? I will probably go on the first day as I am an impatient person sometimes.

I'd be checking with Hare & Forbes if they'll be at the show as they weren't there last year and I don't think they were the year before either.
    Cheers

its taiwanese, so should be a good bit of gear. I am not a woodworkers bum, but the country of origin (taiwan) in metalwork terms usually means it should be worth the $$$$.
always remember you get what you pay for, if you want european get onto gabbet's or somebody who sells european but it will be expensive.
as for the show, if they happen to have one there they wont want to drag it home (less transport cost = better profit on paper, especially if they dont have to pay to take anything home), so any day will probably be good to buy it, for a last minute deal then last day of course.

I went to the sale on Saturday and ordered it. It is being delivered to a couriers yard in the next week or 2, and the way I have been going for time lately, it should be up and running 2 weeks after that. I will give my impression around that time.

It seemed like an excellent piece of machinery in the show room. I am optimistic.
