Hammer B3/C3/K3 - to shape or not
I was primarily looking at the C3-31, but then had concerns about a full on all-in-one machine so shifted my focus to the a3-31 and either the K3 or B3.
Never having used a Shaper before and hearing the scare stories about them am a bit hesitant. Is there anyone with either of those machines that can share some stories and may be allay some fears?

I've got the big brother (KF 731) combination Saw and Spindle Moulder. It came with the router spindle (got the machine 2nd hand). I've always planned on buying the 30mm spindle, but it's scary enough with router bits. I won't be buying the 30mm spindle until I have room to include a power feeder. I don't plan on learning the hard way. Scary is right. Brilliant tool, but 99% concentration isn't enough. I won't use the spindle moulder part of mine unless it's before lunch or I'm confident the concentration is 100% on the job. Any possible distractions , and I will find other jobs to do, and come back to it later. That may be over-cautious, but hey, i've still got both my arms attached, so I don't care. I nearly put my finger into the bandsaw once, and it bit, but forgave me the momentary mistake. Spindle moulders aren't so considerate.
If i were buying the tool new, I'd probably include the spindle moulder option, but go for the router spindle, instead of the 30mm spindle. When you've used it enough for it not to scare the .... out of you, then step up to the larger spindle. Having said that, I know the spindle is an easy swap over in the 700 series. I'm not so sure about the smaller models.

Thanks for the reply
I will get the shaper. Seems it too useful and productive not to
James said the router spindle wasn't very expensive and it was easy the change, won't hurt either way to have both.
thanks

Get yourself the powerfeed as well. Using a Spindle Moulder, even with every guard etc can be a scary experience.

I have the spindle moulder option on my saw, I bought it new as an option, I don't use it a lot but is handy when I do, I didn't go with the router spindle which would be handy but I have the stand alone spindle moulder which I use with router bits fairly often.
